HTS Perkins

Owner / Driver Nick Wilkinson has not only lovingly restored the winner of the 1972 London to Monte Carlo boat HTS, but has also competed it in this year's Venture Cup Prologue event with great success.

With navigator Jonathan Napier, a seasoned British Airways Boeing 747 pilot and Co-Driver Matt Wilson, we look forward to seeing HTS not only in the wet pits of the Royal Yacht Squadron, but mixing it with the newer hulls during the Cowes Classic 2013.

Only got 2 engines in mine, Nigel...

Boat is ready but other things are not. Like my wallet...
It costs almost £10000 to do the CTC with transports, hotels, fuel etc.

Can anyone tell me please the best place along the Dorset coast to view this years race? In past years I have viewed the start at north head and the return at Hurst castle , Last year the start view was fine from Milford shingle bank , But the return leg instead of rounding north head buoy and running down to Hurst the returning boats from Torquay ran very close to the island and the view from Hurst even with Bins was poor ! Fort Victoria on the island looks good but I don't wish to travel over to the island , Or travel as far as Portland Bill Because its the last day of the Dorset steam fair and the roads round there will be heaving!! , Having studied an OS map of the Dorset coast 2 Points look good if they are accessible ! One is Durlston head and the other is Anvil point, Having not seen a map of this years course yet im in a bit of a quandary as where to get the best view this year. Your comments ladies and gents would be much appreciated . Thanks in anticipation , Colin

We went to Portland Bill last year...that was a great spot....till the foghorn went off and nearly blew us off the edge....

It is quite possible that the boats will be well offshore of Portland, to avoid divers - I would suggest the only likely spots are Anvil Point or St.Albans Head.
Otherwise the course is a direct line between Poole Bay CEFAS Buoy & Berry Head outbound, & Berry Head, Arish Mell Buoy, & Needles Fairway on the return.

I will post them on here when approved.

Dean Gibbs and Dave Brown hold the UIM Marathon Class A speed record at 117.49 mph set at Lake Coniston last year.

Dean has been racing since 2008, successfully completing the Round Britain in a a Sunseeker Buzzi- His first race!
