Ere Matt, am I right in thinking one used to have to go through this page, to get into the gallery?

http://media.boatmad.com//readme.html

Kinda says it all I think

You don't have to go "through" it - but it's visible on the "disclaimer" link on the main page.

http://media.boatmad.com/gallery/main.php

I guess I could force everyone to go through the disclaimer page - but I'd be just as likely to take a much more drastic action.

A members only gallery?

I guess it would only be an extension of the current setup in the forum, images only available to members.

seems fair.

shame it has to be that way innit!

RGB DVD

Thanks for converting the RGB race video to DVD Jon. Came out very clear and sharp and passed a very pleasant 40 mins. Brought back memories of faces I had forgotten and names also. I think Lady Arran doing that whole trip at 65 years of age was simply unbelievable. I had forgotten how heavily biased on Mercruiser it was and therefore never saw the boat I was supposed to go on "Minster Heatwave" a 34ft Sunseeker which came 5th I think. Two weeks to go before the race I had a major family problem which stopped me from going. Wasn't meant to be so gave the ride to DGS. Interesting to see some boats like Cossack and Agfa Bluebird and others who must have had problems and travelled by land to two or three stops on to get back in the race. Colin Stewart and Mike Bellamy did amazingly well in their 25ft Revenger "Disprin) (we know what happened to that!) to come fourth overall and Pete and Jan Armstrong were simply brilliant to come 3rd overall in their Phantom all just great stuff. What did you think of it?

I've had a cunning plan. Members, such as rocket man, who are offended by the multimedia section can register as members in the gallery and "not" be able to see the videos everyone else can.
See no evil, hear no evil etc.

Blimey

JF & Matt,

Certainly seems to be a sense of humour failure over JK's comments & I suppose my small contribution! I'm rather suprised at that given the normal tone of happy banter and pisstaking on boatmad that you are all to happy to carry over to rib.net. (which needs it from time to time for sure.)

FWIW the vids make interesting viewing thanks for posting. And happy boatmadders should pay for the heli footage of their boats. And splashing is bad. And there is a life outside boats with toobs. Happy now?!

Of course I do, he was instrumental in getting me the drive on Minster Heatwave. We raced against each other in 82/83. He built his own little cruiser which used to go like the proverbial and would always beat me in flat water. In rough water it was a different matter. he was a good mate and initially was throttle man on the class 11 Flippin 'Eck until his missus put her foot down! He was a very good throttle/trim man. he could also pull the birds like no one else I know!. I have lost touch with him as you do but I do know he is now in Florida and even took his Sunseeker with him. I will dig him out one day. He would have loved Boatmad. In the attached pic I promise I am not molesting his missus. We had black hair in those days!!

Bob kept his last Sunseeker (the Comanche 40) at Merlin Quay, next to mine.

I know he was talking about taking it with him to FLA, as he wasn't having any joy flogging it, but I thought he got a punter at the 11th hour, and didn't take it after all. Probably for the best, it had Yamaha stern drives!

I too have lost touch, as AOL wouldn't let him keep his UK AOL email address. So he had to start over, and I don't have the new one.

He was aware of Boatmad, as I started it before he emigrated, but it was a lot smaller then.

His oul woman was a feisty thing!

Twood be good to catch up with him again.

Am doing some digging with old friends. Someone somewhere will know exactly where he is. Will keep you informed unless you find him first of course. By the way, whatever happened to that 25ft Phantom OCL Suzuki that raced on the RB?

1984 Cruiser Racing Fleet Crews.

Just wanted to put this pic into this thread for posterity before I lose the pic. This is all of the crews (except me 'cause I took the pic) of the Cruiser Fleet at that time. Most of them took part in the Round Britain Race of 1984. You will see Lady Arran at the right front at the grand old age of 65 and was still a fantastic competitor. She was always coming up to me and others saying with a big grin "Have you done something to your engines because you can't possibly be going that fast".

Well that's young Simon (Trailerman) being naughty. I just have to tell you this one, Derek was navigator for Peter Penn on the Round Britain Race and instead of cutting across the Severn Channel to Fishguard he took them up the bleeding Severn! They almost got to the bridge before he realised he wasn't on course. So funny and was Peter cross! The other side of the coin is that I met Derek at Cowes last year and he had just had a REAL serious operation for the big C. there we go again.
