3B Racer build thread
The new 3B racer that I have designed is now under build at Ross-Smith Marine and good progress is being made.
The boat is just under 22' overall length - will be for production and be available as either side by side or tandem cockpit. There will also be a liesure version.
The concept is for the 3B class - EPA or non-EPA - but will be suitable for various other classes upto 150 hp.
The attached photos are early stages of the hull plug and do not yet show wing details, bow details etc.
Really exciting project and will be great to see coming together. I will aim to up-date photos every two weeks or so.

Just to give a few overall details:
Length overall is 6.66m (21' 10")
Length UIM measured is 6.50m (21' 4")
Beam overall (incl wings) is 2.20m (7' 3")
Hull form is triple ventilated steps with a double chine.
Laminate schedules will be either a light weight lay-up or a very light weight option.
Although based around racing in 3B the boat will be suitable for classes upto 150hp, including OCR etc.
Photos just show the intila hull plug construction and boats will be from full production moulds.

Are you able to post any renderings you have of the hull design?
And do you have any idea of production pricing and overall weight?
Cheers

I only have 2D CAD drawings of this design - I will take off some good prints and post them - probably later this week.
Weight wise we will be working towards making the minimum weights. I'm sure there will be some good prices, especially for the first boats - but I need to discuss further with the builder. He will be able to supply either bare boats, complete ready to go - or as required.
Two boats have been committed to be built and I want to make sure one gets on the water as soon as possible in the New Year and given a good test and development period.
Will post more details soon.

Adam have you ever used the 3d printers that are out there for modelling purposes? They look amazing. Just input a 3d drawing and voila!

Hi Nige - not yet - but something to investigate for sure. Occasionally I use small scale CNC machines, either from foams or modelling pastes and that can be pretty good either for presentation or model testing.

Things really progressing well now - a couple of latest photos of the plug being skinned. There is actually a third step and this will show when the next sheets go down.
Then onto the wings, step vents and spray rails.......
Anyway - really pleased with progress and very happy with the shapes as they develop.

Should have given this thread a different title as so much interest in the new boat for so many different classes - (includes 3B) - but various foreign National classes, 150hp and upto 200hp, OCR etc.
The boat will be known as the VS22
