Sumat like that.
Charles liked the company so much, he bought it!

At Windermere one year, Charles was trying to set a new LPG powered speed record, he blew a good few motors, and when he'd run out, he ordered Mark (Pascoe) to have Smilin Jack 'over-night' three motors over from the US, he would then have his Heli pilot collect them from Heathrow, and fly them up to Windermere.

They arrived Friday morning (last day of record runs), at a cost that I can't begin to imagine, when Mark took his crow bar to the crate, and popped the lid off, it contained three totaly f*cked powerheads that Mark had sent over to SJ's the week before!....oooops!

A few red faces at Smilin Jacks that week I expect!

Onto 28 Skaters - this has to be one of the best seen - set-up / rigging / performance - all spot on.

Esso Ultron (second one I think) in 6 litre

Do they still race with the Bat 28 who won the 1995 4 l World championship?? I think the driver was Max Walker.

Was racing upto a couple of years ago - and still very quick - but then suffered some pretty major structural problems. It could be repaired - but would take some work.

There was a rumour that it was going to be used as plug / development boat for a new V28 class - based on the V24 concept - but guess this is less likely now.

Certainly hope so - was there last year spectating and holidaying. Had a fantastic time - hired a boat and travelled through the Archipelago - beautiful and had a fantastic time. Would love to come back with the race boat - but going to have to save some weight and pick-up some more speed!

We are going to race a full season this year and do the Worlds in Italy - but looking at finishing racing after that - just cannot afford the time or money any more!

However if I still have the boat (likely) - then I would aim to do the worlds each year as that is what really excites me nowadays.

Are you going to Italy this year?

No we are not going to Italy we are still not finished with the boat so we are just going to race in the Swedish championship and maybe one race in Norway.

One more for today, Yann Cadoret (hopefully correct spelling) in his 24 Skater.

A very interesting competitor, who did not let being wheelchair bound slow him down at all.

What an event!

Some memories from that event:

Yann Cadoret having big Wiseco stcikers on his boat and then being surprised at his engines being questioned

When Max was tested and dq'd - asked his navigator what drugs showed up - he said "easier to say what didn't"

Charles Burnett and his woman on a dog lead

And the list goes on

Is this a right?

Looking at the UIM rules for classes 3c, 3d & 3s (including the new EPA categories), old 3d & 3s allowed up to 4l and 6l respectively, with no horsepower specification (although subject to being a homolageted engine of course). The new epa rules are specifing up to 6l & 400hp for 3d, and exactly the same for 3s?

Plus, the minimum weight across the classes has increased for the EPA category - in 3d a cat min weight was 1250kg. With EPA it's now 1600kg.

Is there an amount of 'dumbing down' going on? Or is this an attempt to funnel people toward canopied boats without giving an uncanopied boat a weight advantage? (4l monos can still run without canopies, 4l cats and all 6l need canopies).

Anyway here is a familiar one for you.
Hi, you are quite right Jason Mucklow did own Fat Cat then bought by me Paul Miller . I raced it with Jason’s sister Tracy for a number of years ( now Mrs Miller)
Then we sold it to Rob Mills . Good to hear he still has it.

Dad ( Rob ) hasn’t had the boat for quite some time now unfortunately, still talks about it on a regular basis, we think he loved it more than he loves us haha.
He was absolutely heartbroken to hear it had been sold without his knowledge, permission or chance to reclaim from a yard it was being kept on.
