Well

We went out testing this afternoon, and things didn't really go to plan!

First, it was virtually impossible to keep the flexible exhaust hose on the manifold once the revs & vibration were pushed.

That meant that all the exhaust oil ended up in the boat, along with the exhausted gases, stiffling the motor, it also meant the back pressure dropped, making the motor run lean.

Eventually, it fell off, and sank to the bottom of ICT's favourite lake.!

So, I ran it without the lid/deck on, so it could breath a bit, this meant I could get the thing going a bit quicker, but as soon as speed power were pushed, the torque reaction from the considerable propeller, had the boat laying dangerously to port, and directional stability is.....interesting! feckin neally went over a couple of times.

Then the RC receiver got wet, and rather confused which added to the intersting drive.

So, first thing in the morning, i'm off to Mick Charles models for a smaller diameter prop and some new exhaust hose.

Back in the garage tonight to lower the rudder by as much as poss, and try again tomorrow!

Feckin fing!

If the torque's making the boat twist isn't there a way to offset the engine towards the portside to try and counter-balance it?

not really, it's very tight in there, and to be honest, it's only a biit of fun, nowt serious. also, the motor is hugely oversized for the job, both physicaly and power/torque wise, so i doubt it would ever be 'good'.

There's a lot of 'rocker' in the hull(s), so i'm not sure it's an ideal candidate for going very quick anyways.

we'll see how it behaves tomorrow, could well end up in the bin!
