Littlenige, did you know that the Limit Up team used the Joel Harpern Cobra "Beep Beep" for one of the series in the US?

Looking at the Beep Beep cougar cat it looks identical to the former Yellowdrama/Benihana. Someone can no doubt confirm this for me?! What happened to Benihana after it caught fire?

Yes, that is the entrance through the breakwater at the Point Pleasant race area for the Benihana race.

Summer crowds were so big that the race had to be held on a Wednesday as the Coast Guard thought it would too dangerous to hold it on a weekend.

Between the crowds on the shore and the spectators in the boats on the course, estimates were up to 400,000 people.

Once you were down coast a bit you would sometimes have the odd wacko take a run across your bow in say a 20 foot Bayliner to show off for his girlfriend. With that many people you were prepared for them to do almost anything.

For that race, Willy Meyers was the navigator for Michael Doxford. The same boat also ran as COBRA, rather than Beep Beep, with Connie Sisler driving. Connie was Joel's girlfriend and he wouild hire a top crew to throttle and navigate for her. I remember Richie Powers throttling for her at one race.

The Benihana became was sold to Paul Clauser and was renamed Satisfaction, Paul sold it when he took delivery of a new Cougar.

The wooden Beep Beep boat sat for many years at out Miami workshop after Halpen's death we finally repaired it as a pleasure boat but I think was only used as a plug

The Beep Beep Cougar cat showed in the picture was thefirst of two Beep Beep/Michelob Light cats.
This first was in 1978 a shortened to 35' and not a classic 38' and was in wood.
This one in 1980 renamed with the sponsor Michelob Light the wooden cat crashed and sank in the Fasano/Guy Lombardo Classic in August 2.
Then Halpern turn to choosing a aluminium 38',where still named Michelob Light,Joel was fatal injuried in the first race in March 28 1981 in the New Orleans/Halter 200.
