Cowes - 1980

Phantom 23 with inboard running in class 2. Always sounded good - but always seemed to be un-reliable.

Phantom (narrow) 25 behind - with anti-stuffers fitted by the look of it!

Had quite a few boats - but mostly Cigarettes.

For a while they ran two boats together - I think a 40 and a 36.

But there were others. They also chartered boatsand painted them in their colour schemes - including a cat.

The Cougar in the must have been towards the end of their racing careers.

Raceboat 'Realite Charger' staggered motor Cigarette in the background, got a timber 'Sunseeker XPS34' style deck fitted, and sat in Eastlands for years, before Clive Baker bought it and flogged it to a guy in Sweden, or Norway or summat.

And could that be 'Dullas Ranger' in the far background?

John, if you can't get VHS digitized,, let me know, i'll sort summat.

The Limit Up cat became Peter Stuyvesant, after Mike Doxford and Tim Powell secured sponsorship in 1981. They persevered with running twin Jag V12's but could never get the boat to the finish line.
At the end of the season Limit Up, a futures brokers based in St James London went bust. Doxford was to pass away only a few years later.
Ted Toleman secured the wooden cat from the creditors and was also given the Peter Stuyvesant sponsorship in 1982. Later that yet he set a new class 1 world record with the boat at Windermere of 120mph.

Maybe, but it'd have to be a 16 driven by midgets.
