There's actually a 2 seater version in russia you can have a go in.
Well the Mig´s have always been a step above the Western versions.

The Mig-29 that Debuted in the west (Finland) 1986 was stunning in person. An F-18 looks big and fat compared.
Russians have always had a kick for doing topnotch Assault Fighters.

You mean this two seater?

If you´d ever looked into Russian military design and build practice you wouldn´t posted that..remember the AK-47 is the worlds most powerful and reliable assault rifle.

Remember Russians conquered the space first too so they do have the intellect, skill and build power when they absolutely are forced to do something.

Those few mechanical thingies of High tech If´ve seen Russians do have impressed me by their quality And I used to be a professional machinist.

Some Mig Vids here

Well who came up with the design.
Regarding Mig-21 and Lightning I have to say there´s quite a long time between them.
So BAE is a splash

I respectfully apologise for my flippant remark concerning the build quality and reliability of Russian built fighter aircraft. The intelligence on which my quip was based comes primarily from the abysmal record of said aircraft purchased by the Indian air force. Further research as unearthed that the 100 fatalities in the last year, deemed a result of mechanical failure, were, in fact, due to a lack of training of ground staff and shoddy maintenance procedure.

sincerely yours,

Smith

I was only saying they looked a bit alike, not accusing anyone of nicking anything and, yes, the only similarity is the intake really.

Right, that's me off to play in the water.

Not quite - it all started with the moronic British Labour government selling the Russians a few jet engines in the 40/50s. Of course the Russians never ordered any more and copied the design.

The TU144 was a blatant copy of Concorde and the Russian were known for copying almost anything they could from the west!!!

And of course Martin Baker are the world leaders in ejector seats which the Russians also copied!!!

Well I don´t blame you for first of thinking of Russian build quaility in general...but when it comes to their warfare they are second to none.

Besides have you ever heard of Indian Ace pilots?

Aren´t you forgetting that the Ejector seat is in fact a German design and the true nowadays considered best ejector type is A Russian design, by a woman whos husband was a fighter pilot who died testing.

I have lived and worked in India and the death of fighter pilots is a weekly event in the newspapers.
According to them the Mig's are a very unforgiving plane, difficult to fly.

Also lived in Malaysia, they have Migs and Yank planes and they are f*ckin crazy pilots but they hardley ever have a problem in a Yank plane so go figure that...

But no matter how fast or good a plane is only as good as its ground crew, its no good on the ground in pieces or put back together badly.

One of my expat drinkin buddies worked for McDonall Douglas and he once took an F18 up for a test after being serviced by Malaysian ground crew. He put it into a roll and a ratchet n socket came out from under his seat, smacked him in the face and then into the canopy - nearly lost the plane.

Not making any judgements there but the Malay armed forces are made up of Malay's with something like 90 percent Indian origin.

Concordski

On the subject of Concorde and the TU144...

The british/french governments knew the russians were spying and fed them false info, flawed specs and plans, it was never gonna fly right - and then our Yank friends bought one knowing it was a lemon.

They both win the darwin award there I think.
