Don Shead Gallery

I feel the need........................for some beautiful machinery. Iīm sure many of these pics come from Grahamīs library. First, the Planatec 40. Shame it didnīt perform as good as it looked. These are not in chronological order (Marco!) NOt sure how many were actually built - 3?

My favourite Shead hull ever............the last pic is of another identical hull which I never knew existed until recently thanks to Black Tornado (Marco) - raced in Italy with a Castoldi jet!

The castoldi was very fast and incredibly good handling UNTIL she hit rough water, the moment she took off she stopped dead as no water no drive !! She did win a race, but was flat calm...............

Another classic. I know Don Shead designs the Sunseekers nowadays and superyachts, but it would be interesting to know what he would come up with if he was given a brief to design a class 1 aluminium racer for today....

used to think the plantec double two shirts (is that right) then follett in later 80's was a hard act to follow it always seemed to me to win in class 2 during those years, although it did look like it porpoised a bit, may be because of those weighty diesel's in the arse end!!! I am sure Jf said sometime ago he felt it needed longer spray rails to create more lift at the rear, it will be great to see it back out there again

out of intrest what did the boat weigh any one know???
