First Phantom 21
I believe this was the first Phantom 21 built - I did one race in it some years later and managed to damage it!
Originally there were two built (the other for Phil Jones) and I seem to remember that this one had a step bottom to it to start with but then was changed back to conventional?
One for Jon to clarify!!

Phil Jones did have one of the 21' s
First outing was the Solent 70 think it was 77 or 78 Blue & yellow. T"ele-Man" went on to win the one heat European at Poole the same year. Broke the transom after that and never re-appered. It was flapping a bit.
Though I did see him around a bit after
Over to you JF

Just remembered the boat photographed was originally called Hot Gossip.
It was quite a radical change when it came out as the boat to have at the time was a 18' Stapley Cat.

It was quite an amazing boat - had so much potential - but had a nasty coming together wit hthe Allenbys in a Ring At Torquay one year. We were batling for 3rd place when they hooked in front of me giving me no-where to go. Boat was a write-off.
Yes was built for Howard (raced as Lanson Champagne I think) - then by Mick, who gave the hull to me when he was finishe with it.
I believe it was made from a 18' phanotm hull in the rear - and a 16' hull split in two to make the sponsons.
Quite gives me the urge to design a tri myself!

Could have all been very nasty - rather than two broken boats.
Think there might have been a couple of broken rings in the Ring - as we hit the stern of their boat and flew over the transom - having just managed to deviate away from a direct hit on the navigator (David ?)!!

No, Was the 21 Phantom when we teamed up.
The larger one came a cropper at poole in 1980. Replaced it with the formentioned then went on in 81 to a sucessful year, 82 was groovy as well.
