In your post 19 you say the grp cat raced in 1973,yet post 14 you say 1974.

I have No 88 alloy cat as 71 & 73,and maybe it was also 72,but I have no record of it.

So what years did the grp cat race,73 & 74,and did the alloy cat race in 73,or have I got that wrong?

Who built the grp cat.Do you know the powerplant and output?

Thanks for the unknown history of the grp cat,all good stuff.

DGS and I filmed Cruiser Racing (which included many of the other classes of those days) in Cine from 1980 through to 1988 including Fowey, the Needles and Cowes every year throughout that period. In fact we had several "Offshore Racing Parties" which were very popular, where we used to run the films of that year. I have a few in my attic and I know DGS has a huge amount of footage which needs converting to DVD. There is, without a doubt, a massive amount of great historical footage there which I will see if we can do something about over the coming winter months and eventualy post on here.

DGS has done a fantastic film of this years CTC meeting with personal interviews with all the leading racers. This should be available next week. He managed to get to Fabio as he landed just after the main race before the TV boys and has an amazing interview. The whole film has been done in a similar fashion to his "Davids Diary" of the RB08 now here on Boatmad.

It sounds as if we need a winter evening "Film Show" with pics old & new.
I could probably hire the local "village hall" near us, if anyone is seriously interested.
The pub is across the road & does passable meals.
Let me know.

Film show

No wish to muscle in on the cognoscenti of this site. However, I can offer a decent sized screen and projector in darkest Hampshire close to Lepe. Passable spaghetti bol chez moi and pub a close by for priming the pumps. Can do dinner for a dozen and if move kit around can seat the same for movies.

Any interest? I would need a smart dweeb on wiring the clips but can do any DVDs for the projector.

Then let's do it. I only know code names so need to rely on a long-established member to corral. Any volunteers and I will lay on pop and grub.

Dates? Maybe November?

GRP cat raced with Cosentino in VBV 1973-74 and 75.
In my post #14 I say 1974 because in your pic is Petroni on the deck of the cat could therefore not be until 1973 because that year the Commander was with Bonomi.
Remove the #88 alloy cat in 1973. The boat was driven only in 1971 and 1972 Mediterranean races seasons.
The GRP cat was built by Intermarine.
In The "L' Avventura dell' Offshore" is written that the GRP cat in 1973 had Kiekhaefer engines. I believe had the MerCruiser.
In 1974 and '75 had the MerCruiser.
Always MerCruiser as stern drives units.

Martin? Mike? Are you out there?!

Reckon this might tempt Mr Fuller too...he's got a wealth of knowledge and he'd be a wizard in the technical dept. too... Wouldn't you JON?!

November's good. Dark evenings. Not too near Christmas.

Others (such as those named above!) would be better at sorting this...

But if you're stuck.. (and I can't get this damned writing to go any smaller..) I'll do it.

I'm seeing DGS and a few others at the Goodwood Revival today so will have a word about the above. Sounds like a good idea and of course being an OAP I would have the time to "persuade" a few of the others to come along. Leave it with me and i'll work on it. This means we will have to get moving in getting the films moved onto DVD!!!

November would be good for everyone?

That suits me - Fawley is not too far for me at Chandlers-Ford.
If Rob can offer hospitality, then great. Thank you.
If not, get back to me please, & I will see what I can set up.
Tuesday evenings are out for me, as are some Mondays, but I guess a Friday might suit more people, without the need to rise as early next day ?

Sounds like this is gaining momentum... And possibly too many organisers!

I am quite happy to sit on the sidelines and help-out where needed.

Goes without saying that i'll be attending the COPOC evening and would like as many of you as possible to come along. Please let us know if you're interested...

Copoc

No wish to divert attention from COPOC. Please advise. Very happy to host a dinner and a movie night if appropriate.

I do not want to get involved in Boatmad members having to choose - Rob & "COPOC" have both made generous offers to host an evening of nostalgia.
Thank you for picking up my idea.
Both are within the Southampton area, so, personally I can get to either, dates being free is assumed, so can I leave others to decide "Which & Where" ?

I like the idea of combined old and new,but hey i will go to both,we can all learn from each other. The important thing is we have a laugh ,its the best medicine, god knows i have made a lot of people laugh with that glass fibre ,money guzzling heap of mine. They usually say Hi John, see look on face,Oh no not again Think i will swap it for this.at least i can get it in the front room to tinker with.

Sounds like (if you invite those already suggested) you've got a possible four already, Rob.

Unless you're prepared to build a large extension or have your walls bulging, there's a danger of being over-subscribed!

What I'm trying to say (in my own simple, slightly pathetic and painfully slow way!) is that there is no conflict really.

The COPOC gathering is likely to be at a hotel / conference room near Southampton and, being open to all, a (relatively) large-scale enterprise.

No reason why we can't do both, but I'd make yours an "invitation only" for the sake of your doorways!
