Yeh, I lent on a pair of Opti's, and they nearly fell off. Chris L is a difficult act to follow!!!!

Heard he's a dab hand at mowing and weeding though.

Fountain

Having just watched it in action on sky, i would think some of the other competitors in P1 will be having concerns. Its certainly a serious contender.

King of Shaves doesnt look very big to weigh in at the required 4375 kilos , i would be interested to see what it actually weighs
outerlimits had to add weight after running quickly in malta, i wonder if this will be the case here

The owner of King of Shaves wants to quickly squash the rumour from Naples that he is under quoting on his horse power!! P1 have a serious problem here with their rules regarding HP which does need to be sorted and quickly.
We looked long and hard at their rules and you can drive a bus through them. The question has to be asked, how do you measure HP on race day? That's why we reverted to the old tried and tested cc which can easily be measured and you don't have to worry too much about the boat weight 'cause if you build it light it's going to break, especially in our race. That Fountain is a good looking boat though and runs real nice.

A swicth on the ECU or a turn on the fuel pump can be done in a second after/before the race, so HP can not be checked. As you say you can drive a bus through the P1 rules, and remember don't go to fast even when running with a 5 Knot tide you will have to slow down, top speed should not exceed 95 mph Evolution Class / 80 mph SuperSport Class.

without checking I think you will find that oss boats have a min weight around 3600 kilos with 525x2 and looking at usa threads I gather their boats have to be weighted therefore perhaps they could be built if required to maybe 3300-3500 kilos P1 requires a min weight of 4250 kilos...might be wrong here but I thought I had read that P1 were going to have the teams install some kind of engine hp dyno to check engine loads during the race like F1 and other land bound race vehicles, although I have not checked on the net to see what actualy exists in practice

There is no top speed, only an average speed that cannot be exceeded without penalty.

Maybe P1 don't know what their own website says.

http://www.powerboatp1.com/public/about_p1_boats.asp

Whilst these high powered prototype racing craft can reach speeds in excess of 100mph (equivalent of more than 200mph on land), the rules demand a power to weight ratio of 1hp to 3.5kg with a maximum average lap speed of 87mph and top speed of 95mph to ensure safe and competitive racing.

What does it all mean, with three diffrent top speeds quoted?

Clearly the website is out of date ... there is only an average over the entire race, and no maximum speed. Effectively tho, if you were trying to hit an average of 85mph, you would need to have a top speed of at least 10pmh more than that, which is where this is coming from.

On the weights, our boat weighs 4750kg at 1hp to 4.5kg, so King of Shaves has to weigh 4,350kg minimum at 3.5kg per 1hp

I would guess that rule was altered to still appease the rules under the UIM but give more slack in the stright line speed of the boats, therefore fewer red faces regarding disqualifications after all the crews will only take so many disqualifications before it started to effect the entry lists and their pay cheque!!! not trying to be a smart ass but after Cowes last year and the Wettpunkt problem I thought that was the way forward last year!!!
