Welcome to Boatmad.

For a B23 that looks to run very uncharacteristically 'skyward' a lot of the time. We usually see them running straight & level at all times.

How fast? and how much power from the 2 litre engine?

Sadly i have been laying in my bed for the last 11 days, since we crashed pretty good the last race we started in. So, we had to cancle the rest of the season (Only 1 race + the race we never finnished due to the accident).

I got away with serveal fractures in my back, and my co-pilot broke a rib. + All the cutts on hands and feets.

But we both are gonna be 100% healthy in a few weeks, then the reparations of the boat and engine starts, looking forward to 2009.

She does that sometimes, i often need alot of water in the trim tank to keep her flying straight.

The problem is prolly that the engine and the SX drive hangs pretty much outside of the boat.

But that makes her go fast with ALOT of fuel and heavy equippment. Doesnt mather allways preforms, but i really miss the characteris somtimes. But anyway, beats the shit out of a regular v bottom any day

Top note with the "slower" propp, and arround 60 liters of fuel is 72.2knots.
The engine is making arround 210hp at 7.000rpm (there she runs in to the wall)
and 220hp at 7.500.

We will take the engine to the dyno now this winter again since we can make a few updates no when it got busted in the crash, i hope to find some more hp. And its all on pump gas, no racing fuel.

The boat is heavy aswell, ~850+ kg no fuel, no crew.

Jon I was just going to say thats like Max walkers batboat! I loved the way this boat ran. it was in a class of its own.
It won every thing 10 to 12 years back!

Chris Lewis used to have it sat in his workshop!
Talking of which i found the're site and i have'nt seen it since! does this look current and does it look as if the team are back on track for a race on our shores again?

This was another Boat that submarined pulling a cowling off at a Cowes Classic round the island race 10/11 years back.

That boat is reasonable for where i am today, first saw it in eastbourne in 1992 with offshore 2000, sadly it lost a gearcase so only limped past but really captured my imagionation.

It was sat in Marinautic for a while derigged, wonder if anyone knows where it has gone since? i heard it had broken its back.

The paint job is done by Kenta who built and raced this B23 before me. But Wing and a prayer was the inspiration.

I will soon start working on the boat as soon as my back has healed. We have pretty much work since the crash. But to be honnest to boat survived really well, i never thought it could that that much beating.

A very interesting project. I was looking at the possibility of using a V24 in IIIC a while ago as I thought the hull would be better suited to the inboard as thats what it was designed for and maybe using a BMW sourced 6 cyl petrol or diesel. The rules looked pretty encouraging as the working of the motor was pretty free so long as it meet capacitiy rules and did not exceed a certain amount of horsepower in its original format.

What ever happened to John Miller,
I remember The 6 litre cat All of a Quiver mid 90s at Bournemouth then slightly later the plug for his much larger cat was made in (The Secret Shop) at MIDAS when i was visiting there, think that was late 90s then nothing!!

I'm fairly certain that the V24 & B23 share the same running surface.

The V24 only measures something like 22'10" using the UIM procedure. it's the transom overhang 9with tail fin) that inceases it's overal lenght to 24'.

I would use a V24 any day to that kind of project. The reason why Kenta built this B23 was that its smaller and lighter, and has the righet measurements for this class.

And its a small engine, only 2 liter and 210hp as i said ealier. But your idé sounds really great.

I love the V24, i hope i get to drive one next season so i can leave the B23 at home for a while.

I have a few plans to run in V-300. There i can have 325hp at the axel. And we should make about 90knots without any problem then.

But, before i do that i need a crashbox / cockpit and that is a huge cost, so i dont know what to do, i will stay in this class next summer then time will tell.

I love "strange" boat projects tbh

I hope you make a full recovery shortly! Ive been there my self having my body smashed up! Very unpleasant! but i am sure your be back in the boat soon. The bat boat is a great looking machine.

Hi Jon,

The v24 choice was more to do with it being canapied and already having an engine compartment and being a proven boat with a stern drive.

If i remember correctly i think it was possible to use a BMW 2.5 / 2.8 petrol or 2t/d

Thats right Tom, Marinautic is that of chris lewis's ex-workshop! He offered the boat to me 10 years ago with the damaged back. Thou i couldnt afford it.

Im laying here, shopping for new parts for the boat and the engine aswell. The funny part is shopping and getting the parts, the more fun part is to pay for it all

Im still trying to find video or photos from the crash but it doesnt seem to exist

If only Ikea sell boat engines! you could have it ordered and sent to you all in one go as you lay there!

Thou it would be a bit awkward arriving as a flat pack and only providing you with one screwdriver to build it with.
