Without the likes of David Sewell and myself, the series wouldn't have happened. Or, to put it another way, I suppose we are to blame!

Are you really saying the H225 boat is no more unstable than the average decent stepped race boat?....C'mon!

Anyway, however good or bad the 225 is, it's handling has absolutely nothing top do with the continuous 'contact' that goes on, or apparent total un-interest in racers already bobbing about in the water who've already fallen foul of the 225's behaviour!
That stuff can only be blamed on the drivers ability & common sense, and Honda's choices as far as regulations and the policing of them.

Have a safe race in Lowestoft.

I've watched this thread with interest, and thought I'd put my thoughts forward after being new to the Honda series from the start of this year. I must admit after reading some of the comments I had to watch the vid again.
The thing I think that must be stressed is that its put together and designed to thrill - over 75 races of footage to make that - I counted about 6 or 7 collisions (looks quite safe compared to the wsb, gp and F1 trailers!) - I can't comment as to the handling of the 225 (as Ive never driven one), but here lies my observation. The honda series is about one type racing - I would liken it in the car world to the caterham cup, or the TVR Tuscan challenge. Suppose I see class3 etc as more like british touring cars, diff chasis, diff engine, tyres etc but a common performance objective.
Everybody is the same in Honda - same engine, same prop, same hull, same weight with standard pump gas. Hence you get very close racing, without all the complex rules of modification and blueprinting of engines (and big budgets) etc.
95% is down to the crew on board - if your boat chine walks at 50 and you have to back off, so does the one next to you! Yep, its not as fast as it could be but it still gets the adrenaline going.

The other teams have welcomed us, very friendly with advice and help, and the events are extremely well run. There seem to be a lot of myths out there.
I am having the time of my life!

I'm interested in all forms of powerboat racing - zapcat to Class one - with no prejudice- V24 looks sexy as hell, would love a batboat, and try to get to the basic races when I can to meet new people, so anyone who is at the Honda events please drop by say hello and share some stories!

What I DO think is Honda is doing something very good for everybody here on boatmad and the racing fraternity, and I haven't met anybody yet currently racing who I think wouldn't stop to help me if I was in the drink

I did this 10 mph all week, and there was this goose or swan at Ambelside at the top of the lake (big white thing) chased me all week in the inflatable do think i could out run him ( it went in to that half flying half running on the water thing just left me for s..t), but the police boat never gave it any hassle life's just not fair.
There seems a rule for one and rule for others!!!!

I think the swans are worse than the geese. They think they got protection or something. Worse, my dad wants the family get together this year on a canal boat. So 3 mph will be fast enough. And all the bloody locks. And the swans, and the occasional goose.

Sigh.

They are the most majestic of birds.
I have 2 pairs here on my lake, one black pair and 1 white.
they are reasonably friendly unless cornered or frightened.
One of the blk comes in to the lounge if you leave the door open.......but is the only one who dosen't take food from the hand..
So don't chase them they r great..

I have been racing 225's for few years and thought I might as well get stuck in.

I suspect we are much like any other racing, some races are as dull as ditch water and occasionally people start upping the anti and taking stupid risks. Every time that has started to happen consistently (rather than it being a one off racing cock-up) it has been stamped on hard by both the officials and the competitors alike (we are not all bonkers!).

This is completely wrong. You can recover a roll. There is no doubt that the stepped hull takes a lot of practice to keep under control when you are pushing hard round a corner, but they are a very rewarding drive.

Having said all that … there can be no doubt that I will now roll in Lowestoft, but I thought this discussion was getting a bit one sided!

does the 225 rules not allow trim tabs?
Would solve the majority of the problems

I've watched one roll in a straight line...just got on it's chine in the chop, and didn'e wanna come back.

Their tendency to get on one chine/topside, and not want to come back into shape is an unusual thing, and not the thing one normally considers a 'regular' trait of stepped boats. losing lateral grip, and spinning out, yes, maybe even turning into a roll, but not that ferkin odd, prolonged journey on one chine we've all seen the 225s do many a time, often resulting in a rapid, involuntary dissmount.

Anyways.

As I said, this aint supposed to be a 'Honda dissin thread', I just think the driving could be a little more controlled, by the drivers, and the club/govening body... but hey..

I think it was the big daddy swan as the signets were hanging around the only public jetty where everyone feeds them,
My kids bought duck food at the little shop there, as we sat on the wall feeding ducks, swans, and geese, this swan came up behind one of the kids went in his pocket and took a whole bag of food then run off, well ,everone was having a good laugh not only for taking the food, have you ever seen a swan run, its like a deepsea diver running forward with the biggest set of fin's,everyone was doubled up, my wee boy who's 3 years old was really upset because the swan about pulled the jacket off him in this process.
The joy's of holidays eh
