Waterbird

I drove Waterbird 777 a few times after doing some work on it for the then owner, Sandy Carpenter in Jersey back in the early 90's. Mod VP's running avgas.

It was lively to say the least! Certainly got my attention.

The acceleration on the Ring must have been impressive.

I know, or knew, Bas Barrowman back in the day, who originally had obsession. He kept it absolutely immaculate, as with all his kit. (featured on an episode of Bergerac)

Yes, the Mod VP's were alleged to be circa 275hp, running avgas we shnaffled from the airport (I got dragged over the coals for that by the airport manager), and I have to say it was by far the quickest accelerating boat I'd ever been in, quite scary. That is, until I got a ride in a 450kg, 1200hp jet sprint boat. Now that accelerated!

Have to agree on the Mod VP we had one on a Ring 18 Ski Racing, very quick !! I can also reiterate Jons Jet Sprint experience and that was something else. Mental springs to mind, 30 tight turns in under a minute and 5 Galllon of methanol !!
Back to Hunstanton Pics is another story as I think i must have been there but can't see the boat in any of the photos so far !! Dare I say it but I was actually driving one of them Phantom 21 things in F2 at the time !!
