Just a few shots from the Thames, not sure if this event still
exists today?

Not The London Calais

That race was disappointing in some ways; we entered thinking we would be going to race from London to Calais on the Saturday and back again on the Sunday.
We pitched up on the Friday afternoon to be told that permission had been refused for us to “race” the Channel leg (can't remember what the reason was).
So the race was London to Ramsgate and back again on Sunday.
OK! But Prize giving for the Saturday race was still to be held in Calais!
Some race boats went over there on a “poker run” whilst other racers took the Hovercraft.
Very Strange.
Still it was a fantastic night in Calais and the hovercraft was far warmer and more comfortable than Roy Smith’s Forgecraft!

I suppose you could say it was a lot less bovver in a hover. Did the event revert back to London-Calais the following year or disappear altogether?

Looks like the problem of submerged objects in the Thames causing difficulty in such events has not improved over the years. Judjing by recent news events it seems WHALES are the latest hazard for boaters to avoid when navigating these waters.
