Trouble is – it never works out that way!
I remember back in ‘88 putting my 3c cat into a huge wave, we were totally full of water.
We were at the back end of Guernsey in massive seas. By the time the first safety boat came along I had pretty much passed out with cold (I’m only little)
What should the safety boat be? A fishing trawler complete with Captain Birdseye on the wheel!
They managed to throw a line to our race boat (Navigator Morgs was 18 stone in those days so had plenty of insulation)
And when they towed us into the lee of the Island, got me onboard the fishing vessel.
And the first thing Captain Birdseye did was to take all my clothes of and rub me down with a towel –
I still wake up in the middle of the night at the thought of it!
A most unpleasent experience.

On that subject Ciao I first met your old man when he towed me in from somewhere off the Goodwin sands in the Putney Calais race of 1978 when he was on Mike Slack's boat. They were very hospitable to myself and my navigator Fiona Shead.
