More oldies

Found these few pictures that may be of interest to you younger guys.
This one is a boat called Inertia, driven by my Grandfather in the 1965 Cowes-Torquay, with a pair of straight six volvo petrols, about 200HP each. Can't imagine how he managed to get it so airborne ?

Here's a flop !

Anyone remember the great Granny Arran ? Built by Ron Wobold, pair of small blocks surface drives, we could never get her going. Picture of a young looking me waiting for the batteries to be charged by the look of it. Must have been 1984 ish ?

Miss Embassy

Here's another Oldie, the launch of Miss Embassy, the same hull as Double two shirts but with a Rolls Royce Turbine in her. Originally built for Tommy Sopwith but driven by all sorts of people as he had a bad back that year. Proved to be quite fast when the turbine was unleashed but the rulemakers brought in an equivalency rule that meant that they could only run at about 80%. Got some pictures of the transfer/ drop box from the one turbine output to two drives somewhere that I will try to dig out.
Sounded absolutely awesome !

Talking of which has anyone seen this site : http://www.gas-turbines.com/ really good stuff here watch some of the videos with sound.

They should bring back that class, particularly in light of the current trend for turbine power these days. Whatever happened to...........................Miss Embassy, Passing Cloud, Black & White Whisky, BP Pacesetter, Marlboro Enfield? More to the point, does anybody have any more pictures of those machines?

I can tell you, being the son of the driver of Black and White Whisky, there are still ideas, and the boat is still around somewhere!
