Hmmmm.. Cougar bare hull lying around in Littlehampton You know. Going to ruin, just past the old Cougar office.

Got "world champions" splattered down the side, I forget the year.

Sad.

I think that would be "Pussy" a US1 46 that had triple 575's in originaly, bit shabby now, sold recently for 3K! but needs 100K spending on it, and a grand a day minimum to run it....no contest.

PS. it was at Cunninghams yard a while ago, just by the arrun bridge.

Cougar

Had the privelage of seeing some cougar moulds first hand, I think they where from late 80's and approx 35-40ft. To my nacked eye, they seemed top notch...and they where close enough to some real top notch moulds to be compared!

JF, did you not consider one of these then before the purchase of your Phantom? Or was your close association to the sittingbourne outfit / price too big a factor to ignore?

They didn't really do much smaller stuff, I think the smallest US1 is the 33, to do 70 in that you'd need monster power/money, and it wouldn't be trailerable, the P28 is a great boat (IMHO)

Never really thought of it in those terms. I forget your not a sarf coast lad. I assume trailerability was a big factor...it certainly is for me.

I've never thought of your 28 hurtling along @ 70....thats some speed! mind you, 600 and odd hp!

Those cougars may have been bigger, i saw just enough to make out the lines and could see thier general construction, I had other things on my mind.

Seemingly another set of redundent moulds

Lawrence, The boat normaly lives (dry berthed) in Southampton, so trailering is only essential when bringing it home, or to windermere or summet. but it is useful to be able to move it that way.

It's not a great video, but you can see it 'hurtling along'
here

and

Here

I wasn't asking the weight to take the piss , but on reflection I think it's a missed opportunity.

I have just got a newish 3.5 ton (imp) trailer and was wondering if you had one yourself.

Sadly no, I would like to find a perfect 2 or 3 axle American aluminium 'I' beam trailer, they are wonderful! (if a tad ilegal in the UK)

Vid

Jon,

thats the video i already had......i've stopped watching it now as it gets me all pissed off that i wont be doing anything like that in the too distant future!

Whilst in Miami beach last year, saw a scarab 23 on an Ali trailer... it was shaped "I" beam and bolted together....superb!. I even got names & no's of Ali stockholders & welders earlier on this year, but thought building one may have been jumping the gun, not having anything to put on it!

ever seen http://www.aluminumboattrailer.com/ ?? gets to you a bit when you compare the $ price to the steel equivelant over here.

read that email yet?

Simon,
If you mean in picture No 6, yes it is, that was when it lived at Merlin Quay, Hazel Rd, Woolston, sadly that yard closed down so that NEG could make wind turbine blades! it was a bloody good yard. (even had a cafe on site )

I'd like to, but even when I get enthused (like today) I run into yet another feckin problem!
Today I offered up the new manifold on one motor, and it fouls the engine mount!
