Fast Cat
As this match seems to be heating up I may have to drag this old girl out of retirement: Epoxy/ carbon plywood hull, about 50 inchs long, K&B 11cc outboard with powertrim, bronze three bladed surface prop, ran just under 50mph on the radar gun. Took a bit of development as I had to widen the tunnel to both get more lift and to stop it barrell rolling in the turns. Should still be very competitive. It was awesome in the rough as well ! Suffered once from the old wright cat syndrome; blew in the back of the tunnel on Poole Park Boating Lake, didn't sink but was quite spectacular ... Where's the venue ?

More in the armoury
Here's another boat from the loft. An Aeromarine sprint cat with an OPS 11cc rear induction motor with tuned pipe, reputidly 6hp at 18,500 rpm on 25% nitro. I made this as a replica of the boat that won it's class in I think it was called Naviga model circuit racing and was timed at 71mph. Mine was so fast that after about two or three minutes running you ended up with "jelly legs" from scaring yourself witless. Managed to stuff it big time in Poole Park the boat was full of bouyancy but disappered totally and didn't surface. We couldn't understand why. Anyway about ten minutes later it gradually came back up with the bows covered in slimy mud to about six inchs back from the pickles. It had gone down so far it had lodged itself into the bottom ! In fairness it was probably only 3 or 4ft deep... Really good waterproof radio box so flushed out motor and ran her again !

I would describe it as an "all rounder".
Big enough to handle a bit of chop, and big enough motors to make it whip some arse!
I was happy racing the little 35 quid electric things, but you lot decided you wanted to race faster - so faster it is. I reckon it should do a lazy 75

I didn't my boats got one single small 7.2V motor and is a mere 18" long. The only money I'm spending is on some of those cheapo 3300mah nimh batterys on ebay and a charger that can charge them cus my old quick charger only does nicads at 5A.

Ah, but will you win with that combination?
Jon's 10cc replacement for a pair of 380's could be a quick thing.
Mr Rob's race motor
Gav's pair of wheelchair motors
etc

Probably not but I know that if I spent £400 on some silly fast boat it would either be nitro and thus a pain in the arse or a fast electric and so have a run time of 6minutes on 3800mah cells. And 3800mah cells take over an hour to quick charge at 3amps. So even with 3 sets I would be sitting around alot. And to go fast with electric boats you want lots of decent cells not the cheap ebay crap I'm buying and decent cells are about £4 each. 3 sets of 14 cells x £4 = £168.
I reckon my ebay 3300mah batteries should go for a good 15 minutes each and I have a 1900mah pack too which should last 8 minutes or so. Plus I can charge the 1900 pack in 20 minutes and buy the time I've used em all up one of my 3300 should nearly be ready again so that gives me 4x15 minutes and 2 x 10 minutes which is 1 hour 20 minutes and thats plenty I reckon

Hey Gav, how much for a bare hull, layed up heavy, especially in the rail areas?
And, what is the beam?
PS. before you think of any smart arse replies, i'm refering to the model.
