National Raceboat Championship - Torquay

This weekend saw the final Round of the Championship sponsored by Raceboat magazine.

Going into the weekend, Y Knot (Jeremy Gibson / Robert Dyke) held a narrow lead in the championship after winning the rounds at West Bay and Plymouth - the rough conditions at both events suiting the Phantom / Yamaha 130.

If Only (Bob McCarthy / Paul Knight) in a Bernico / Yamaha 130 was in second place. Bob is Chairman of the Offshore Circuit Racing Drivers Association.

In a distant third place was Bernico Racing (Robbie Mould / Jamie Stickler) also in a Bernico / Yamaha 130.

The weather in Torquay on Saturday was perfect for the 11 boats contesting the final round - sunshine and clouds on the English Riviera - and the water was relatively flat.

These conditions suited the Manerfelt bat boats - results:
NWJ Racing Manerfelt / Mercury 200 Neil Jackson / Jason Jackson
Sick Childrens Trust Manerfelt V24 Dan Priestley / Sam Brewster
Circle Express Manerfelt V24 Brian Peedell / Stewart Dick

These three boats were not serious contenders in the Championship having only contested Round 3 at Folkestone. Championship leader Y Knot was 5th.

By contrast, the weather on Sunday was wet and very windy. Conditions that again suited Y Knot and they won the final race, clinching the Championship. Celtic Mist (Alan Power / Olly Ashworth) were second and The Rock (Phil Hancock / Aaron Scott) third.

Thanks Riviera Guy.

We should mention the welcome return of the Forgecraft that actually won Sundays heat in spectacular style. Thanks to Tim Tapping for catching the action)

And that this Championship seems to have captured the imagination with 18 boats contending plus the 4 Zapcats, and lots of interest for 2014 !!
