New Rib

After several months of fecking about by me troops, their rib has finally taken to the water, minus the seats. Bit of a backlog in the upholstery department!

At the speed that you'll be doing in that finely honed powerhouse I would have thought that a couple of deckchairs would suffice!

Your forgetting that this is a rib built by hardboaters, so there's plenty of room in the r/h console for ambre solaire and a couple of pairs of ray bans!!!

They did consider that, but the only one's that they could find were striped and the colours clashed. Stidds would be nice, but might blow the budget!!!

Joking aside though, it's still faster than a certain P22!!!!

And the powerhouse only cost £300!!!!!!!!

Being serious is not something that I'm very good at, but I'll give it a try.

The rib was built by the guys who work for me, for themselves. It came about through a "challenge" during a lunch break walk about in our yard, when one of them said, "there's not a lot to building a rib", to which one of the yard staff said if they thought it was that easy they should give it a try...

It is, like a large amount of ribs on the market, based on a "hardboat" hull. And is indeed a one off, but there is a possibillity of a few being built for next season, although they would almost certainly have a conventional console.

Funny enough, we have been all over the "superyacht" in the background, and it's very impressive. We did talk to a mutual party about the possibillity of supplying tenders for it, but it's unlikely that it will happen.

What's really funny about that is when I visited the boat show at Ocean Village earlier this year, I spoke to at least 4 different rib builders who assured me that they had the job!!!!

Nice looking. Like the concept look of the consoles. Just one insy winsy question if I may? When you "laid the decking" why did you go for that layout and not the traditional "King Plank" type layout and is it TecDek?

What can you tell us about the superyacht Tony?

When we first put the rib on a rack in the yard in February it was Navy grey. Since then they appear to have grafted a new stern on the ship & altered a lot of the super structure. Looks like an expensive conversion job.

I think they just preffered the look, and it kept the cost down a bit as you buy it by the sq metre! and no, it's flexi teak.
