Talking New Toy!

Well the final adjustments were made to the engine on the Picton Saturday morning and I said goodbye to it Saturday afternoon!
There's a new toy squeezed into the garden now awaiting much TLC!
Will upload pics this evening cos I'm at work right now.
Finally a proper boat

Few Pics, cleared all the crap out of it earlier and spent a good 2 hours with the pressure washer.

thought there was a fuel tank in the floor but appears to just be the bottom of the hull, anyone know why the back is built like a box with a water outlet instead of just being open?

Haven't found HIN yet as is under old paint/filler,
the original gelcoat appears to be a white deck with red hull.

I'd put money on it that it was used for the usual tricks as everything below the rubrail has been badly refinished, no bow eye or fixing holes and all holes from engines/bungs in the transom have been badly plugged from the inside and filled over on the outside!

Lookin for a motor, anythin between 90 - 150 really, don't wanna hit the fuel costs of a v6. Yammy 130 v4 would be ideal, preferably requiring work.

Not going to do much work this end of the season, will be used pretty much as it is, with the addition of motor, seats and steering!

Nice to finally have my hands on a proper boat!

Comments/advice are greatly appreciated!

Max

Kinda hard to tell from the pics, but the longitudinals look like they've seen better days. If they are shagged (rotted out) you must make sure that the running surface is good and true before glassing replacements in, or you'll fix any unwanted hook/rocker in forever.

Well done Max, It'll be worth it when done.

Cheers, they're not too rotten but have been chopped/trimmed/braced/screwed through etc etc so will have a closer look tomorrow and might keep them for this season.
Either way they'll definitely be replaced by winter.

Today's progress...

Is much better after a good clean!
Stripped out all old fixings/wiring etc,
Been cutting out what was left of bow tank surround, has been dissapearing very slowly!

Can anyone tell me what the two holes in the floor in one of the pics are?
they're just behind where the bow tank would've finished and appear to have had some kind of plastic fitting snapped off, there are skin fittings on the deck at the sides which they may well have been attached to??

Also there is a piece circled in red in another pic, what's this for?
It seems to be some kind of outlet from underneath the floor?
From memory it is threaded...

It looks to me like the set-up for an underfloor fuel tank with two breathers at the front and a filler at the back? But I removed an inspection hatch in te floor and it appears to be the bottom of the boat in there?

Anyway overall progress is good and have got to start sourcing parts to get it on the water.

Phantoms of the era would have had a Fill for the bow tank which took the form of a sliding transom mounted scoop which went to the top of the tank
The drain was a gate valve assembly in the transom Vee which run to the rear back end of the bow tank, They didn't normally have through floor fittings.
Only through Hull was for the full Vent at the (just below) the deck line, that way you got a wet face when full, would be equal in size to the fill to prevent overpressurising the tank. They had a fixing shoe at the front & glassed down at the rear.
Having had one break loose & go out through the side at Allhallows I recall a belt & braces strap going over the top which needed two holes in the floor

Will be set up like a race boat but primarily used for pleasure/poker runs,
anyone know if there's likely to be a 1.3 class at cowes this year?

Congrats on your new purchase Looks like a lot of work there but im sure it will be well worth it in the end

I know you didnt really want a v6 but theres a xr2 150 on ebay at the moment - starting bid £750 - got to worth a punt at that price!!

Would go nice on a P18 and think it is being sold by a BM member so could be worth a look

Aternatively, id look out for a 90 yam. They are a good solid motor with good efficiency for a 2 stroke - just hard to find at a good price. My old man used to run one on his 19 crusader and that went v well.
