P1 SuperStock Championship, Torquay

The final 5 races comprising Round 3 of the P1 SuperStock Championship were held in Torquay at the weekend. The weather was kind to the racers on the English Riviera, and although the sun did not shine much, the sea conditions were ideal on both Saturday and Sunday. There were 8 identical Panther boats contesting the Championship and the competition has been close. The American paring of Andy Biddle / Tracy Blumenstein in MBY Allam Marine led the Championship going into the weekend. They knew that they did not necessarily have to win races to win the Championship, and therefore they applied careful tactics. In fact a third and a second in races 1 and 2 were their best results of the weekend - hampered by technical problems - an engine change on Friday and when they crossed the line after Race 5 Andy Biddle was indicating to the assembled audience around the harbour that the new engine was also dead! It did not matter though, they were British Champions, having done enough in the other races to pick up enough points to maintain their lead. With the pairing in a very strong position in the American Championship too, they could end the season with both titles. The weekend though belonged to John Wilson / Daisy "Duke" Coleman in Pertemps - they had three 1st places and two 2nd places - magnificent! - and the joy was evident in John's face when they crossed the line having won race 5 - an almost perfect weekend. If it had not been for the disastrous Plymouth round, where they picked up no points, then I think they may have been crowned Champions. They will be the crew to look out for next season with John aiming to win the title he last won in 2011.
Torquay also hosted the 4th, and penultimate Round of the P1 AquaX Championship. Dave Huddleston won both races and maintains his Championship lead on 179 points from Ian Moule on 158 points.
