Hey Norman,

welcome on boatmad from the other "German Phantom freak" here...
When I will finally pick up my Phantom 23, I will introduce myself, too.

By the way, Norman and me are both members of the German "offshoreonly" crew and love Phantom boats. But only the originals from Steve Baker himself...

I'm pretty sure it runs in that region - should go a bit faster with a Cleaver..

It would suprise me if you can reach the highest speed with a cleaver,on a Phantom 21 with a 250 xs.
A p 21 needs bow lift to run fast

A friend owned a p 21, this is years ago +- 1998 ,with a 250 EFI Mercury ,and it run the highest speed with a 26 pitch Throphy 4 blade ,we tried all the props we could find ,but we could do the best with the 26 p Throphy and that was 79 mph,gps measured.

We tried cleavers different in diameter and in pitch ,3 -4 bladers ,but found to much wet surface, and a lot propellor slip, and only speeds into the 70-73 mph.

The only monohull I have had that responded exelent with a cleaver was my Hydrostream Vector ,very flat ride compare with a round ear, much more stable ,and higher with its stern on the water.

Sterling -I definately think a 4 bladed Cleaver would do the trick.? These have already have bit of bowlift in them..

It already runs with 4 bladed Trophy 28" and hits the limiter 6000 revs @ 88-89 mph

Hi Norman, I have to admit your rig looks impressive on the pictures.
Do you have the engine mounted on a lift/setback ?
Regarding cleaver props they are intended to be somewhat "neutral". I have no experience regarding the Phantom 21, however, I would bet it needs bow lift. I am collecting a Phantom for my daughter next week and look forward to start rigging. Will start testing asap with hydraul. lift and 6' setback, have picked a few Hydromotive props to start with. Have only experience from rigging of Formula One circiut boats so this will be great fun!!

I agree - I have tried cleavers in the past, and they do not give enough bow lift for speed. I am under the impression that cleavers lift the transom - and are most effective when used on a cat.

you guys might be right Anyways I always though that the Cleavers did deliver a fair/medium bow lift.?!
It does very well with the Trophy, so maybey Norman should have the Trophy lapped to gain one more pitch - 29" - in order to get below the rev limiter.?!

The general feeling is that Phantoms work best with the engine bolted directly to the transom - it doesn't mean that you're wrong though!

Hi Cookee, will naturally test all combinations, set back/no set back, 3 blades 4 blades, rakers-choppers, thru hub exhaust-single hub; its all testing-testing-testing.. you know what I'am talking about cookie.. since you are racing yourselves, it is all science, and at the time you think you're there finally, you change just another little minor detail and you're stuck in a dea end and you have to start all over again.

I wish you guys all the best in Round Britain race (think I have seen your entry ?) That is gonna be a great race. In Norway we are gonna race to Denmark (from Tvedestrand to Hirtshals) in July, peanuts compared to around your "little island".
