actually, having spoken to 'the slug' whom desperately wants to finnish his private chopper liscence (and is about 15k short!) & now comprehending the size of the 'student loan' our man has prob taken in order to get to drive the heli in the 1st place............ let alone all the day fees, £400 a vid prob isnt all that steep.

I'll stick me neck on the line then, who's up for going quarters?

Mebbe for 400 kwid you buy the rights to it as well so you can sell copies on - I dunno, be worth asking what the score is.

I "might" be, but as taz says, be good to get a preview (even if it's a low res of the raw footage). Would also want the right to put it on the media site, reuse it mixed with Jon's footage, etc etc.

A friend of a friend has a chopper and I know he says it's crazy expensive to run. The wedding photographer is a good comparison, they charge up to a grand for a few hours work and the only expense they have is a pricey Nikon, not a £100k chopper!

Don't be so tight! The video sounds cool ...

Just an observation, I aint involved in this but for info.
The CAA would look at this as aerial work. Selling the resultant footage could possibly open a minefield of biblical proportions If he is not a CPL/ATPL licence holder, might get away with a BCPL. But then the helo should be registered for commercial work. BLah, Blah Blah, Waffle, regs rules ect ect.
I'm sure he IS a Licence holder of the correct catagory but
this is an open forum and any bugger can read.........even the local CAA hatchet man.

Was just an observation thats all as I had a pal who got ass raped by them what really was a favor for somebody else..

Fink we all had to upfront £150.00 per boat for the worlds in 85 the more above that you put in the more footage of you was in the final cut.

Edit: guess I'm getting Old but I'd be fekked if I'd sit in a single engine helo over the water, (Oh to young with big gonads) bloody fings, footie foot, leftie left, righty right, frontie front, backie back, twistie twist, upie down. then some rotten controller wahts you to change frequency..... with what no spare hands errr shiver.........

Got to agree with Taz on this one. At £117 per DVD he's going to sell maybe 4 DVD's, if they were £25 each I suspect most people would buy one. How many boats were on the poker run? Even if there wasn't any/much footage of your boat you would only have spent £25 and it would still be a good watch anyway. And as for your comparisons with wedding photographers; I've got a copy of the lastest 'Star Wars' film here on DVD, it cost me £15. How many hundreds of millions did it take to make that one?

I think it's fair to say, they'll sell a few more tickets for StarWars, than vids of half a dozen nobbas running round the solent.

I don't get all the wigneing, if you think it's too dear, don't feckin buy it!

As Matt says, there's no obligation.

I wasn't aware he was shooting video as well as stills.

I traded a couple of emails with Alastair today, to see if if we could put our own video cameraman in the chopper, seems he can't do that, but will shoot 30 mins of footage for £475 +vat. using his own cameraman and hand over the raw stuff.

Not sure 30 mins would be enough to make it attractive tween 5 say boats.

We'll see.

Yeah they will sell more copies but it doesn't cost hundreds of millions to fly a helecopter about for a few hours does it!!!

Also I wasn't talking about half a dozen nobba's I was talking about the poker run!!!

How many boats were there?

I haven't seen 4 people say they'll buy a copy yet at the asking price but I bet loads would if it was £25.

0 x £470 < loads x £25
