If they want 'x' for video footage they have of your boat (which, by the way, I don't think exists anyway, and was a missunderstanding) and you think it's too steep, don't buy it!

Go buy a disposable camera for a couple of quid, get a mate to take a shit pic of ya boat, and enjoy your Value for Money!
So - not wanting to pay £400+ for video footage of my boat that doesn't exist makes me a bollix talking penny pincher??? Charming...

Anyway, I dont remember saying I wanted to copy/rip off someone else's property thats why I asked about the copyright.

A vid of part of the event would have been nice as it was a memorable occasion, although that has been tainted by getting abuse for asking a straight forward question about it.

You don't, because ultimately everyone is a tight arse. Even at 20 kwid, he'd sell a handfull, and everyone else would copy it (Downloaded many pirate mp3's recently?)

I know of another board member who hired a helicopter & camera man for the day - he spent (IIRC) about 5K for the day.

I wonder how many people have bought photos of their boats from the day.

Daren, firstly, the post wasn't aimed at you, or any 'one' person! It was aimed generaly at those in the discussion who think they should dictate how much a specialist company should charge, for a virtually unique service, and If that price were not attained, to club together, buy 'one' copy, and share it, effectively, ripping him off, and almost certainly ensuring the 24th June 2006 was the last time any of us get the chance of a nice aerial shot(s) of our boats.

How many helicopter based, aerial photography opportunities have you all previously had, and how many do you expect in the future?

In reply to you though, a straighforward question would be "How much is that video mate?"

A straightforward answer could be "OK, I'll have a copy" ...or "Na, too steep for me dude, I'll leave it ta".

Remember, this site is open to the world, and I've no doubt Alalstair has had a peep himself. Is he likely to make the effort & investment in another shoot of a boatmad event having read all this?...I hope so, but to be honest, I doubt it.

Out of interest, how many people bought pictures from Alastair of the Poker run? I know Matt bought 3, and think Mamboking also got some, who else spent cash with him?

In conclusion, this is an open forum on the tinterweb and the world & his uncle can see it, so please don't broadcast stuff here that could harm the status quo with people like Alastair, who are offering such a rare opportunity to ALL of us, as those of us who didn't get any pics of our boat, would like to think we may get some next time, if there is a next time.

I think I'm right in saying, that 'Marine Helicopters' is a pretty new company, so probably needs decent cash flow to stay in business, and is certainly not some multi-national, that can 'suck' on getting 'rogered', from time to time.

Late!...surely not!

I can't chill, no one seems to understand!
Every ****er wants summat for nothing these days. In fact, it's not even 'wanting' summat for nothing, it's thinking they're 'owed' it for nothing!
If there was ten aerial photography firms, fighting for the chance to take your cash and have a huge profit, then mebbe. But other than when we used to race, I've NEVER had the opportunity for stuff like this in a private situation before, and the way it's going, it's unlikely to happen again anytime soon!

"I'll happily stick 250 quid in me boat for a few hours fun, but if a company trying to offer a unique service want's 100 quid, they can fkk off, ...i'd give em a tenner!"...nice!

Mr Rob, 40 copies!! to whom? there was only 30 boats! and ya never likely to get much more than half of them wanting to buy.

As Matt says, if it's such an obvious business opportunity, and you appear to be the only entrepreneur that can see it, put ya money where ya mouth is, rent a chopper, rent a pilot, rent a cameraman, rent a professional video camera and make some cash/give a great service. We'll all welcome it.

Alternatively, go back to plan 'A', and call yerself 'Chaudron video services'.

agreed for the most part mate and with the benefit of being able to have given this some thought, I kinda agree with some peeps that £100 is very costly, but relative to Alistairs costs + the unique oppurtunity that it is; most likely NOT all that OTT.

In truth, my only dissapointment is that, of the pics taken on the PR, Alistair didnt manage to get a nice shot of my boat; I think Matts 'Formulator' looks feckin magic in the 3 he has. More so I'd love to think that (at some stage) i'd get a repeat oppertunity.

anyways, as I said............ chill geezer!

Late: I said I'd be leaving 'am'its feckin 11! and i've only been to the bank, post office, 1.5hr physio appointment & me pops office this morning.............. so nob-off gingernuts

How much are you expecting to pay your wedding photographer, to nob about for few hours, with maybe two cameras round his neck, no helicopter, no pilot, no fuel, no landing fees etc?

I'll tell ya, at least a grand! and still no guarantee they'll be good.

I'd wait till he's done em, then offer him a tenner, then copy em, and flog em to all the guests for 15 each.
