Frejus / St Raphael race on Saturday and Sunday 26th and 27th August if I am not mistaken, was down there for that race, a little boring though as the guys raced over a 2.5mile square course of approx 10 laps, it was a little like OCR with Batboats (no disrespect to OCR intended).

The last race of the saturday was more interesting as it was an open class race with 2 Phantoms and a couple of side by side OCR style boats which were as quick as hell.

The classes were 2 and 3 litre boats. Good to see though bearing in mind i was missing out on a corporate hospitality at Cowes that weekend.

I think it's the french interpretation of a batboat - ie similar, but not the same (not splash either, IIRC), and comes with white flag instead of red ensign.

Looks like they have 4 boats running in the Verado class plus another two batboats running as 3C boats - so a pretty good effort!

You cheeky devil Matt!

Adam, great pics. That rib does'nt seem to spend much time in the water. I bet that makes for a wild ride.

It really comes into its element in 'bumpy conditions' flies really nice and level and generally allows it to keep up with larger boats.

In fact bow sections owe a lot to the Mobil 1 raceboat that I designed - now raced by Will Nurse as 'Black Thunder' - and again that boat cuts into a head sea very well.

There are a lot more pics of the Fejus race and the others in the French season on http://www.offshorepassion.com/new/home.html

It even gives you a pic of the start helicopter which is an unusual way to start a race !
