Jon and TD ran over 79 at Windermere with about 450 shp (I think) in a 26.

The 575 should produce about 540-545 at the prop with a Bravo and the 24 should weigh less than the 26.
I know it ran in the eighties with a blower last year at records week on windermere, seems its a very heavy layup .

No it didn't, it ran 77 with the blower.

summat aint right, as it was supposed to be 700 odd hp.

As Ben says, TD and I ran 79.37mph in 1997 with about 460hp (crankshaft), although the boat had a few small mods, like a notched transom, and a majority of the weight shifted aft.

It was also a very 'honest' 460hp, sometimes the numbers get a bit blured when people talk 'Horsepower'.

Also, set up is everything, having a load of power means nothing if you cant put it into the water.

In '89, Mike Ring ran 69mph on windermere in a 26 with a 454 Magnum (365hp) in the then 'National Production Class'.

We set a record in that class of 74.06 mph in '95 with about 420 hp. (in between Mike and us, 3 other records were set by Peter Armstrong (twice) in a P28 and Ben Mazur in a Velocity 26

Peter did 69.summat, taking Mike Rings record.

Ben did 70.summat, taking Peters record.

then Peter went back and did 71.8mph re-taking the record (1994ish?)

then us at 74.06mph (1995) this was the last of 'National Production Class, from 1996 'Touring Class' replaced it with some loosened rules.

then us again at 79.37mph (1997) ('T' class)

What, compared to your 18 Phantom. It is in fact no heavier than any other 24 that I've built. It does have higher than normal transom knees, and an extra bit of glass on the chine and rails, but this is more than compensated for with the fact that it isn't finished to a production boat spec!

ie, no stereo, speakers, lights, cabin upholstery or door, etc, etc!!!!

That's the 97 Southampton Boat Show one, with the s/h 365hp in it. It's the purple & yellow boat in the Poole Harbour video, and was a pretty quick boat when new!

Yet again up for sale for more money than it cost!

Wish I could take the credit but Tony Dowley and DGS took the record in 92. I had the important job of video taping.

Peter re-took the record in 93.

Mike Sweeting and I went up in 94 with the V26 and ran an astounding 69 mph. At that point the props had been played with so many times as to render them useless. Yeh excuses, I know.

A common problem!

Once the prop lot have had half a dozen goes at producing what the customer wants, or thinks he wants, the only way forward can be to bin them and start again from a nice new fresh set.

It's part of the reason I don't like second hand props, you never know where they've been! (or bashed)

With a nice new set of props (which I finally convinced Mr. Sweeting to purchase) the old girl picked up 3mph.

And speaking of props, I finally gave up the quest to find four blade cleavers for HIM's boat. Went onto Boatfreaks.org, Offshoreonly.com, Offshorepowerboat.com and Speedwake.com in the search. Spoke with Bruce at Express in Florida who spoke with Speedmasters and I had e-mail communications from Randy Garciga from Cobra and Doller Offshore. Four bladers for SSM II's don't exist.

Hope we can get dispensation at Cowes to stay on the plane outside of the mustering area.

I wonder if it would be possible to sacrifice a pair of small shaft #3 props, remove blades, turn hub down to same diameter as a #4 large shaft, and have them welded into a pair of large shaft #4 four bladers.

bit of giggery pokery maybe, but can't see why not.

Sounds like a good idea to me. At this point we have run out of time but HIM might want to consider that idea for the future.

There has to be a solution to this problem and it seems to involve thinking outside the box. The suggestion from Randy Garciga was to cut the cavitation plate to allow larger diameter props. Speedmasters in Fla. said not to do it as did Steve Curtis.

Oddly enough, when I mentioned this to Andy Judge he said he used to do this very thing to the old Volvo Speedmaster type drives so props of a useful diameter could be fitted.
