Yeah....Next to the slip...been trying to work out what year it is...probably 1977 but cant be sure....used to do loads of racing on the wyre then...& ski racing...in fact there was a northwest series at the time & we used to race at wallasey, carr mill dam,morecambe...there were 3 or 4 classes..depending on engine size...was very popular for a few years
Hutchy used to do a bit of ski racing at the time,so he will recognise some of these boats
Got about 7/8more pics if your interested...but i will have to reduce them

The water was absolutely shite at the time....that was when ICI were at full tilt...they used to dump the effluent into the river as the tide was coming in....today it is like a beach in barbado,s compared to what it used to be like

Will reduce the rest & post them tomorrow night....There was some great racing on the wyre but the Yaught club always seemed to arrange a mass sail up the river just as the races were about to start...got a bit hairy at times
Some top racers started on the wyre...in fact there were a couple of class 1 offshore boats moored on the estuary...can,t remember the names but one was owned by Alf Bontoft,[who was killed in the cowes/torquay when his boat ran up the beach]..the other was owned by Andy Jardine i think.a deisel...u could always tell when he started it ...a big black cloud came down the river & turned day into night....eeee,them were the day,s lad
