Eduardo Polli spent millions and achieved very little. Mainly because he never saw anythiig all the way thru.I think many could have been very effective but and I know not a nice thing to say but more money than...........However he was very good for the sport and although HE achieved little other members of the team did.
Abatte achieved a lot but had the Abatte(Primatist)wealth and boat yard behind him.
Obviously Fabio Buzzi has achieved the most from class3 to wining in every class and all over the world.
Casiraghi was very talented driver!
The Spelta dynasty did very well over the years
Betty Cooke
Could say more but the men who did most by designing the best boats top of all must be Don Shead and Don Aranow...........D A had his own money D S started small and built a reputation fast and and as Levi had the Italians D S had Soppy!!
Personally................Tim Powell
Boats...................Cougar

Wellcraft Excaliber

As there appears to be a wealth of experience out there or viewers have very long memories, does anyone know anything about a black Wellcraft Excaliber 27 called Black Shadow. I think it raced in the late 1980's or early 90's and I think the drummer from Queen (Roger Taylor) navigated aboard the boat.

There was a photo going around shortly after the race of Roger unding his life jacket as the came back into Poole.
The expresion on his face was priceless.

If it's the one I'm thinking of (I think it was called Shadow Warrior and written in Japanese), it was built under licence by Powerboat Italia and raced in 'Cruiser Class'. I've forgotton the owners name but it was sold to Phil Middleton in the mid 90s who re-named it 'Bad to the Bone' and if I remember correctly, Phil either placed or maybe even won the first basic race that we introduced at Cowes in 1998.

And now owned by Clive Baker, soon to get a new 496HO. It was gonna do Round Britain, but it aint now.

Wellcraft Info

Here we go again. For what it`s worth I`ve logged the following.

Shadow Warrior -1985 to 1987 - I.Morton
Bad to the Bone - 1995 - P.Middleton

The above is for a Wellcraft 27ft.1 x Mercruiser 370hp,although I have Bad to the Bone listed as 32ft,but there again details in entry lists can be suspect.

Bad to the Bone is definitely Phil Middletons Welcaraft 27, ex Shadow Warrior.

Now in Clive Baker ownership. he bought it last year.

I'm pretty sure Ben is correct re: 1998, as I towed him home from Cowes with Maelstrom, which I had in '98

Bad To The Bone

Thanks for the confirmation Jon.There is endless conflicting info compiling boat data.Ben is no doubt correct re 1998.Some of the basic races are quite sketchy on recording their info,so it slips through the net when logging all this. It`s the red herrings that can be the problem.I ought to attempt something a bit easier like building a 31ft plastic mono. When I can get a run at it,I`ll photostat some of those Baker write ups for you to read while your`e twidling your thumbs waiting to get into the fit-out.

Make them a offer. From my limited knowledge they will never get near that.

It was at Tony Hamilton's shop on the Itchen in the late 90s and then went to Cougar in Warsash where I think it was sold to someone either in Gibraltar or Malta.

Double Two Shirts. Yes we would accept 40k! Realistically, we expect an offer to be south of that. We would also like to hear of anyone looking to trade a smaller boat, (even a Rib!) something that we could afford to race around Britain out of our own pockets if our funding doesn't materialise.

If anyone wants more info on the boat, get in touch and at least the info might be accurate!

Maybe you could post more pics and give details of what has been done and how complete the boat is now.

Thanks. BB
