The Cobra Project

My 38ft long workshop has a 36' Cat reversed into it! It used too have 4 O/b's, we have to convert it to a pair of big blocks on Mk4's.

That was a 2 day job, as the 3/4" ally plate thet spanned the transom had been sikaflexed on! Here's the bare transom

We then made a fibreglass flange to enable us to bolt in a outboard well infill moulding.

Next job was to construct a plug for the infill section, using mdf and body filler!

This was given a couple of coats of durabuild, and sanded smooth ready to lay up a mould on it!

Whilst this was being done, we also took the oppurtunity to plug all the 1/2" bolt holes with doweling, epoxied in of course.

After we'd made the mould, we removed the plug, and cut out the outboard well, leaving a bit to bolt the infill to.

Now the boat was easier to climb into, we set about modifying the structures to make room for the engine packages! The triangular wooden thing represents a big block, with the solid engine mounts bolted to it.

Once we'd worked out where everything was going to go, we set about removing surplus bits with the saw.
