Still looks great today!
'Limit Up' if anyone is interested, is a term used in association with futures trading. Certain markets have price limits up or down. If the market trades up to the limit (limit up) or down (limit down) the market is closed for a while, to let the traders calm down and collect their thoughts.
After what happened to the owner of that boat I always thought 'Limit Down' would have been a more appropriate name!!

I thought it was a term used in the shower of the prison you've been banged up in after spending your investors money on powerboat racing!

Limit Up

Fantastic pictures of Limit Up....

Limit Up belonged to my father Michael Doxford. I would be delighted to see any more images anyone has of the boat. I gather it is was last seen rather derelict in Ibiza. If anyone has any further details of its whereabouts I would be very grateful.

I have a pretty large collection of images from the race days if anyone's interested...including the original race shots from Beken.

Best wishes

Richard

I'm sure we would all be very interested in seeing your collection Docky.

Please post them.

Pretty sure Matt can set you up with a gallery as well.

Hi Richard, Firstly welcome to Boatmad.
I know TP and Pete Downie very well.
Here's a question for you, I don't suppose you know what happened to your Uncle Bob's model of Robert Bruce? My father built it for him and I remember one Sunday morning running the models on the Round Pond in Kensington. My dad also did a model of the 35' Limit Up for Pete. His models of the 40' Limit Up and 37' Peter Stuyvesant are in the Basildon Powerboat Museum.
Is that you sitting next to Pete in the picture?

Many thanks, a great site and a real trip down memory lane! I'm not sure what happened to the Robert Bruce model, certainly remember it as a child, my cousins most likely still have it, I shall make some enquires for you.

I'm pretty sure that isn't me in the photo as I was only about 6 when he was racing the PS boat!

Willie Myers very kindly gave me the Searace book many years ago, it is indeed a great book.

I'll try to get some images scanned in this week.

Docky,
I am an old friend of both TP, Willie Meyers and many of the Limit Up team, including your father. In the mid to late 70's, as a young wipper-snapper, I spent my summer holidays polishing Unowot and changing engines with the odd test, based out tof the race boat shead at Fairey Marine on the Hamble. Spent many happy times on board TP's "Breathless" watching races. I raced with Willie and Mike Mantle in the 1984 Round Briatain Race in "John Phillip Tubas" we had a terrific time even though we only completed two stages before we broke the boat in half. I saw Willie last year in Lauderdale and speak to him once in a while, unfortunately he has had a couple fo strokes but he has finally succumbed to walking with a stick. Still full of his sharp wit and great stories of his early days in racing with Arronow etc ...
Has a large vodka and tonic, or three, with TP at Excel last week and he was also on very good form.
Saw Pete Downie last week as well as he is doing some work locally building a replica Lancia Stratos to keep his hand in.
Welcome to the forum, the old stuff is the best !

Many thanks. I haven't seen Willie in many years, very sorry to hear about his stroke. please pass on my regards to him when you next speak.
I occasionally bump into TP, who does have that amazing knack of turning that one V and T into three!

I don't think I've seen Pete since I was about 6... but funnily enough I do remember him fixing a model car for me back then. Glad he's progressed!

also remember spending many hours marooned on Breathless somewhere off the Isle of White after we blew its engines!

Very glad to find so many memories of the the Old School still active. They were great days.

Somebody asked earlier in the thread about the boat in the foreground - I think it´s the Michel Meynard 39 bubble deck cigarette. Can´t remember if it raced in Cowes with Billy Martin running it as Bounty Hunter??

UFO II became the original Limit Up. .after being bought from Norman Barclay, which is the one you can see in the original photo.
