What's this then?

http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listi...en&slim=quick&

Looks suspiciously like a Don Shead Planatec 40 splash - allegedly 49' long. Anyone got any knowledge?? Twin Lamborghini power. Sweet looking you have to say....

Hi Nigel!
This Shead-Planatec style was one of some boats built in Viareggio in the '70's/80'S in the Tecnomarine-Firebird yards under licence.
One of those was "Mate" in 1978 that would be the last race boat of Count Franco Gilberti(owner of the Cigarette 36' former Lady Nara 1/Lady Mate/Talvez/F.Eight).
Mate would raced in Santa Margherita but at the last minute Gilberti abandoned the idea and then retired himself from offshore races.
I think is the same on the picture that you have posted.

Don Shead Planatec 40 splash

Looks like a boat called 'ABO' raced by Bobby Buchanan Michaelson back in the 80s fitted with twin mercruisers.

The design is the same but in the specifications on the web they wrote that the builder was Firebird,Italy.

Except it's grown by 9 feet, changed colour, got Lamborgini petrols, and is for sale in Italy!

Anybody got a shot of the engine bay? Looks not to be staggered according to the air intakes.

Definately a Firebird Cobra built under licence in Italy. Same as D2S but with a full cabin. And yes staggered engines.

Spoke to the seller last year and he almost accepted a bit of €15k, but those 2 valve engines were just a bit too scary. Seller said it ran 90knots!!!!

Looked at an identical model in Belgium last year, but sadly without the Lambos! Bit more of a project though.

Here here the same boat where it is found today, to few km from my house.
The photo I shoot a couple of years ago.
Chiarugi was a sponsor-driver of Powermarine in 1993 that then it disappeared from the competitions.
Unfortunately I didn't have the possibility to photograph the engine bay but I believe that it was empty.
That of Belgium I think it's another story.

Also the 49' they can be only if we add the surfaces drives units.
