Sweet. Always thought a similar 15 foot cat with a 70hp short shaft Yammie would be a killer flat water boat.

Very true - I like the idea of good speeds from small power. Especially in a small cat you end up with a boat that can be really nicely balanced and surprisingly good in light chop.

I'm sure once I get this winter over and various designs / business projects finished something will happen in the workshops! Maybe a new 3.5 deck moulding or could be a little larger all together.

Really trying to move away from building boats and just being a design office - but still happy to the occasional prototype!

Its strange everyone talks about cougar cubs & all but frankly except as a junior class, I don't get it - Probably just nostalgia, the speeds won't cut it for adults on a 10-12 foot cat

Sure the speed is lower but the key point is FUN. lots and lots of it, at a reasonable cost.
You can almost turn em back over again on ya own when you turn them over and get going again.

Yes, but if you build your own boat out of plywood, it wont cost you much more to make a 14-15' than a 10-12'. And you'll have a better choice of motors.

It'll only cost 8 times as much to make a 30 footer than a 15, so why bother with anything less?

would be great fun - think you would have to limit it to production boats (grp) with ability to take two people - otherwsie you would end up with a load of specials / circuit boats which might make it all too serious!

Surprising how quick 30mph feels like in such a small boat though! put a number together (as Cougar did with their cubs) and it would be good sport.

Lets say 30mph could be fun in the boat, but not as a spectator...

Yeah, but 'offshore' powerboating really aint a specator sport anyway, is it. unless you have an interest (someone racing that you know) it's like watching paint dry.

you gotta be a real enthusiast to just watch it all the time, how ever quick they are.

I still think it's a shame they took the "offshore" out of powerboat racing, no doubt to make it more spectator appealing and draw in the big sponsors, like that really worked didn't it.
