I mean an 800x600 pic won't upload... limit is 640 x 1500 but 1024 x 768 should be plenty.

There's 2 issues.
a) 640x480 fits nicely on the page
b) The difference in file size between the 2 can be significant.

However, we've been discussing some options so that when people upload decent pics we can let large pics be uploaded, which we can keep for the media site, but still show them at an intermediate size on the forum - best of both worlds.

Don't hold yer breath, but someday, something might happen.

That's because I set the limit to 640 x 1500!

there are literally thousands of pics in the boatmad database, that gobbles up server space!

1500 height is so you can stack 3 pics on top of each other (in P-S or similar) rather than post 3 times.

Rent some web space, and hyperlink to them, then you can have em as big as you like.

OK, but i'd just like to add, ribnet, OSO, and in fact most other 'forums', only allow about a 420 pixel wide image, because of the way the shere numbers of images that get uploaded ramp up the cost of hosting.
The sql Database for boatmad is fast approaching 1 gig in size now, and it aint gonna get any smaller!

Matts generosity with his own server (and time & effort), means that the 6 Gig of pictures and videos within the media.boatmad Gallery isn't costing me, or any of you lot any dosh, and we should all be thankfull of that, as the Gallery i'm sure you'll all agree, is bringing a whole new dimension to boatmad.

Actually on RIBnet the max dimensions are 640 x 640.

And you can have up to five images per post

Why would I, or anyone else have '5' pictures of Ribs? you only need 2, and I've already posted em loads of times!...oh ok, once more!
