200HP Engines

Would some-one be able to advise me of all 200HP engines that are availabe to purchase by the general public at this present time,and any that may come available in the near future.

Depends what you want to do with it and how you want to oprarte the boat.

Performace in that range then 200XS XR2 is just getting a little long in the tooth, good reports on the rudes.

I have proposed introducing a 200HP class to OCR and would like a list of engines that are eligible and readily available for the AGM on the 11th November

OCR Is for standard production sports boats !!

2 ltr was dropped because there were no longer any 2 ltr Engines (other than 140 Johnson) in standard production, it was made quite clear by the RYA from the outset (1990) of 2 ltr (175hp) that if these engines ever got up to 200hp we would then have to run 21 ft boats and bigger courses (probably taking out the chicane) as this was already being done by Class 3 the obvious thing to do was go back to 1850cc 2 stroke / 2200cc 4 stroke which is proving to be very successful as well as economical.
The last thing Uk Powerboat racing needs at the moment is any more Classes.

no one had left until you,i repeat you,proposed dropping 2litre.there used to be 40 of mixed classes on the start,now there is only 10. as for making of 2litre engines we still had them.. the proposal at the agm was to go green,and you turned up the next season with a yam 140 ,as obsolete as a xr2.

As a former Committee member of OCRDA in the good old days!

I can agree with you 100% that dropping 2ltr at that time did not do OCR any favours. 2ltr did run for a few more seasons, I myself raced it in 2002 and it ran the following year.

However, I believe if you try to make an additional class in OCR at the present time when all of powerboat racing is struggling, you are only going to thin out the current classes, not necessarily attract newcomers.

Also at the AGM you refer to the proposal was for 4 stroke and 2 stroke engines to run alongside each other, green engines were never proposed.

i would disagree ,green engines were proposed ,EPA as they are better known. that is why evinrude 115 came onto the scene.

I think I,m write in saying you won't be able to buy 2 stroke motors ( not DFI ) from Jan or Feb 2007. The only exceptions are if you have motors in stock from importer, if your a business you can buy one, but not sell it ( own personel use only). The rules are very gray I have spoken to both Suzuki uk, Barrus, etc.... and they all have their own opinions. Their are also fine's involved if you get it wrong " Im told" but from whom. Can anybody shed any light on this very grey area. Hench no 130 yam's next year!!!
