300 vs 300x
I have been told the only difference between the 300 and 300 x is the ECU. Anyone actually know?

300 is a 3 litre, 300x and 300xs are 3.2 litre but its more than just the ECU thats different between them. I dont think there even the same cc.

Dude do a search on the forum, Ive posted about the 300 and 300x a few times.
The 300p.m is a 3.0l EFI block
the 300x is a 3.0l Optimax block(efi aswell)
and the 300xs is a 3.2l duel stage direct fuel injection
As i understand the 3.2 is the same bore as the 3.0 except has a longer stroke.
in answer to your question Marc, no the 300x has different block, ecu, intake, etc.

I am in the process of re-assembling my two 300's. I was wishing to get a little more power out of them, so I dont want to buy a new one.....
Geoff says the powerheads are mint. They have under 50 hours on them and they are hardly run in yet, basically because of the wrong prop they never revved over 5000 so I dont want to mess with them too much. I was hoping for a ECU fix or something similar....
The engines should be back together and on the boat again in under a month!

I think as said above, the differences between the 300 & X are significant.
I believe the X block is actually a 3 litre opti block.
I reckon this raises an interesting tuning option - taking a 300xs powerhead and de-opti-ing it - could be potential for a very powerful motor.

nope,
300x is 300 hp at the prop (or as many people describe 325)
pre 2000 300 promax's were 275
post 2000 300 promax's were 300 due to having different intake, ecu and a couple other things.

I was speaking to simon about us fitting the 300xs crank into our engine as it has a longer stroke

Not entirely convinced by that cus everyone I have ever spoken too and all the posts on here and 'scream and fly' that I've seen (other than yours) have indicated 317hp at the prop.
Show me dyno results or something!!!

I agree here I was always lead to believe the 300x was more like 315 at the prop too, this is why it was excluded from f2 in skiracing in the uk
