4.3 V6 mercruiser prop help

Hi all,

I've got a 26ft Searay running a pair of 4.3 205hp V6 mercruisers on standard alpha drives turning a pair of vengeance 23P props, I'm only getting 3500 rpm flat out so I'm assuming it's over propped, anyone confirm this?? The port side is counter rotating too.. Cheers Mark.

Hi. Standard props on the Alpha with a 4.3 are either 17x14 1/4, 19×14 1/4, 21×14 1/4.

You do look to be overpropped and from my experience, relatively heavy sportscruisers run much better with the bog standard quicksilver props. I would drop to 19's to try and get your performance up. Is the boat kept in the water ? If it is, even a little bit of fouling could keep the speed down, make sure you have a clean hull before you splash out £300 on new props.

you need 1300 rpm to hit recommend wot at 4800 rpm.
IMHO I would go for the 17" Mirage Plus, the large diameter blades will carry your heavy hull great.

thanks for the info. the boat is clean as only went in the water last weekend. I need to try and find some props to try out so I can get the balance right.

Hi Mark

I wonder if the new engine is down on power, she would rev round to about 4200 when I had her so prob a tad over propped but much
