Obviously lots older than your motor, but I think the boat side ignition wiring should be pretty similar:

Well fellas, good news managed to get a full strip down rebuild workshop manual off Ebay which covers all Mercury 2 Stroke outboards between '92 and 2000.

Fantastic quality and on Pdf, now would the site require a back up copy?

Im sure it would be very useful for others, I've printed it(403 pages ) and filed it, so someone Pm me and I'll sort out a back up for someone and post it out to the host(maybe).
