As far as I am aware from my days at Barrus, all mariners are metallic (apart from the new ones) did the customer want that grey?
customer wanted an opaque colour as oposed to metalic, and it represents the older colour mariner cowls, not the new shiney silver.

Thanks for all the info and pictures, they look good!

One more question though, tanks cowl has no air holes like Gav's...do I need air holes on a 150?

Will not having them cause problems?

No air holes means 'no go', ask Gav and the airhole cut out should be larger than the two holes in Gav's Mariner hood. Also don't forget to cut a couple of slots in the back of the hood as well.

all my cowls now come with a air vent in both sides almost the same as an original cowl wich then goes into a liner like the original to keep water from ever coming in contact with the power head. i used to drill holes like gav but i had so many racers concernd if they took a big wave the water would go on the coils and stall the engine. sorry to say gavs cowl looks dull it is very shinny and of excellent quality i just wonderd why it was not matalic thats all.if anyone would like to see the vents i do i will email pictuers. cheers tank.

you definately need the air holes, i made the mistake of cutting too smaller holes in my cowl, giving me an air restriction problem, there is a fine as to how small the holes can be before a problem arrises, the holes in the mariner cowl on this thread are 28mm each, which is slightly bigger than a bobs machine shop cowls, i know of folk that run with these holes with no problems at all, in fact i think TD used to run his promax's with 4 holes. depends what you prefer the look of...... and more importantly what the motor requires! i would have thought you would easily get away with just 4 holes on a 150.... suck it n see !
the slots in the back of the cowls are just water drains from the inner cowl.

Tank: Your airholde which avoids whater on the powerhead sound very good.
How much are you asking for a complete Alien cowl with lower
schroud and fitting for a Merc 150/200 2.5L ?
( you can also send me a PM )

I read earlier that you need to remove the powerhaed for installation, is there anyway around this ?
( like cutting the lower section in two halfs )

Kind regards

Troels
