Another serial number question

Trying to confirm the age of the engine that came with the Ring I just purchased. I was told mid 90's when I bought it but what info I could find indicates late 80's.

The engine is a Merc XR2, 200HP - serial number is OB290548.

I understand there is difference in max rpm on the 200 range so want to make sure I don't over rev it, plus I need to get some new parts ordered up for it.

Anyone able to confirm for me please?

Thanks
Dave

Exclamation

a pic would help but that looks like it belongs to an older race xr2 ie the one based on sleeved down 2.4 (old decals and 2 intakes on cowl) not a newer model that is based on a sleeved down 2.5 block.

see different variants here http://www.marinepartsplus.com/catal...race_outboards

your sn is in the range shown here http://www.marinepartsplus.com/catal...oards/MERC_XR2

look at pics for cowl...

Thanks for the reply - it certainly seem to co-inside with what information I could track down. So need to keep the revs down to 65/66 rather than push it to the 7 mark then

I have attached a photo, unfortuantely its the best one I have with me at the moment. As you can see, the cowl has three "blank" vents recesses in the front and not two open ones. It is a single unit (not cam shell style).

Cheers
Dave

XR2 Year

The engine is a Merc XR2, 200HP - serial number is OB290548.
The year for this engine serial number is 1988.
But not sure at all you have 200hp in 1988 on an XR2.
