Barnical Removal

Hi all,

I've seen a few related threads, but am wondering what the best method of removing barnics from a hull that's been sat in a marina for a few months is?

I've pressure washed the general weed off, but am now just left with the barnicals...

Thanks,
Sam.

I have used a windshield scrape, which takes the barnacles off, but the "root" is still there though.. For that to come off I would think you need some kind of chemical solution. Or grind them off

Put the grinder down !
If you have a piece of soft wood ie 2" x2" with a sharp cut edge you can quitely push it at 45 angle against the fibreglass and off come the barnacles.
Ie the end of a post-works well.

Thanks for the suggestion there Big Dutch, I'll definitely give it go!

My only problem is that at the rear of the boat, there's about 11 wheel runners on each side of the trailer making the bare hull difficult to get to.

Can anyone recommend any chemicals that can be applied to the hull to help remove them?

Thanks,
Sam.

Just do the ones you can reach then winch the boat back 6 inches with the strap around a keel roller to bow eye-this game is simple-the longer you leave the barnacles the more brittle they get.Try a weed killer spray with parazone and water mix 1 to 3 parts water. Then scrape

Mix up some bleech with water spray on to the hull first to remove the slime.... then attack the barnicles with some wheel acid - will dissolve the buggers!

Thanks for all of the advice guys,

I'm going to try and make the hull running surface smooth too, though I still won't come close to catching you in your R20 Tom!

Whilst on topic, can anyone recommend anything (apart from antifoul) to put on the hull that prevents under water growth for a short time?

Sam.
