Bat boat prop info

Recently purchased a B23 that we put a 250HO on.
On the water weight is 970kg so it's not a light one.
Trying to get an idea as to the best style of prop to be running.
We turned the boat over in a recent race and I feel it may have been partly the choice of prop we used.
Those of you who have run these boats for a long time could give us an indication of the best style to use please. Peter.

Dont think the guys in UK run them with Evinrudes. Usually rigged with 200xs in the UK for class 3.

Be interesting to hear their thoughts??

is there a big weight difference between the two lumps?

Thanks Rhino we ran a 28" Cleaver in our first race in rough conditions and all went well. This race was really calm so went with a 32" 4b Hoss
Gave us great speed but allways pulling left.
Spun out going down a straight. Nose dropped to the left, boat went right, co driver went right, boat barrel rolled landed the right way up, minus one wing and spat me out to the left. Then proceeded to slowly sink.

I have an ex Mick Archer race prop here which he used to do very well with, I am back in the office on Tuesday and will take a photo or two if you're interested - email me at cookee@bananasharkracing.com.

Photos of the prop - looking at the serial number it's a propeller revolutions one.

Our b23 ran a 28" 4 blade cleaver through hub for one race!!! Exactly,, the boat turned over aswell!! It picked up the stern too much and blew the boat to the side. causing a barrel roll...

I just realised I had answered to PM's but forgot to put the information on here - I have measured the prop and the diameter is just under 14" - the pitch is around 24" if I remember rightly. I have only used it twice - it didn't suit our stepped hull, but is fantastic on a batboat!

I fitted myself in 2002 Worlds in Cape Town a 20" XR2 on a B-22 designed only for a 90 HP. What an experience!
The result was that the boat wanted to roll right and left all the time.
When about to loose control, there was only one thing to do to correct the situation: "FULL POWER" and to do this, it took in fact a hell of a lot of courage!
See this movie:
This was just a greedy sharp turn. My co-pilot flew out of the boat, I nearly did as well, and dont laugh because my co-pilot did no have his engine safety cord attached.
Somewhere I have a movie in which you can see my boat yawning up on the air nearly out of control and how I corrected it. I will look for it.
I am still running my B-22 here for towing a racing skier.
Hei, is there a Bat boat I could borrow to race in Europe now in June/July/August? You can drive mine here in Cape Town.
Cheers.

What length shaft have you got on your Evinrude? Over here we are all running 15" leg and through hub cleavers. Could be your centre of gravity is too high if you are running 20".

How is your navigator now? I remember he made it back for the awards dinner looking a bit second hand! I was there with the BananaShark Rib, and we had a fantastic time with some of the best hospitality of any race - thank you again.

Hi Cookee!
I remember you well.
My co-pilot had a sore neck for a while but he was fortunately fine. He said the water was very cold. We were very lucky!
The fact is that he had the safety cord on, but it was unfortunately tangled around the control cables, so that when he fell out, the cord got unhooked from his belt and did not trigger the engine cut out.
How many times, we just clip the cord without checking if it is clear from any obstructions!
By the way, the organizer of that race was Tony Fraquet, passed away about a year ago. Since then, the offshore racing here has gone down.
Hope to see you guys racing in Europe in Summer.
Cheers.

Sorry to hear about Tony - he was a real character, I know he wasn't well when he organised the race.
