Battery Box

Disappointed with the normal junk in chandlers when you ask for a battery box, what does everyone else use. Looking for something to hold a 110 amp battery secure when the throttle is down.

K4 have something on there web site but no picture unfortunately

Box

TD gets nice (but simple) coated ones done...i think he said they are usually done for smaller batteries.

maybe we could get him to do em both at the same time and give us the usual "Davis Discount"??

Speak to Cyco he makes one that should fit that size battery if not then it shouldn't be a problem for him to make a custom one for you.

You made a battery frame out of Ali ? how long is that going to last when the battery acid gets splashed on it. However the design has merit so I'll have Portchester Engineering splash it in Stainless

To all, advice much appreciated

Well as it's done three seasons and still looks new the answer is "at least three years" but then it is alachromed and powder coated, and most importantly, I don't have battery acid 'splashing around' so I may have an advantage over you there.

Why would you expect to see acid splashing about anyways? I can honestly say I've never seen it, but then I do have proper battery boxes

It may be the difference in a £37 towsure battery and those which rather more expensive. I gave up buying expensive bateries years ago cos they don't take the bashing in a rib an dprefer to chuck out cheap ones every other year.

However what make are the batteries ? and how do they breath ? through the fill caps or via one of those little plastic tube things ?

My batteries are regular 655 truck batteries, and although I've broken a good few plates (internal), I've never broken a case, or had a spillage, but I think this is purely coz they are held exremely firmly by the frame.

if you think your rib dishes out a bashing (as many ribbers do), you need to do a powerboat race in a quick boat! that'll destroy most anything, but a racing style battery box will survive.

Is it common for ribsters to have a shredded and abused ringpiece then? (I see you say "Serious ribers only)

Never done the circuit racing thing, but done enough offshore racing in very small ribs to know what doesn't work, and those plastic battery boxes in the chandlers and recommended to me by the Aladin Cave sales staff just don't do it for me.
