Battery charging problem.
Houston; we have a problem.
Battery is okay but it's not getting a charge.
The V6 has 2 voltage regulators, 1 must be okay as the rev counter works.
How can I check the other?
Or could it be something before the regulator?
What's the test procedure peeps?

I see what your saying here Captain, If the rev counter don't work on the 2nd regulator, that's the faulty item?

Captain, finaly got back to checking for the problem.
I've swapped the grey wire from the top regulator to the bottom one, rev counter does not work.
Swapped it back, rev counter works.
No change in charging state either way.
Replace the bottom regulator?

You should only have one regulator and one Rectifier !! Grey Tacho wire is connected to one of the 2 yellow wires on the Rectifier. Swapping to the other yellow to see if it still works will indicate a fault but following the test in above post is more accurate.
Being a merc it is almost certainly the Rectifier anyway and not likely to be the regulator that should only have a Red & a Black wire to it.

Bob,
I've got 2 units situated behind the trim solenoid plate, both have 2 yellows 2 reds and 1 grey.
The yellows go to the stator, the reds go to the starter solenoid, the upper grey goes to the tacho (lower grey is spare).
Where is the rectifier situated?

Maybe I am a bit out of touch but have not seen one with 2 Rectifiers before !!
Area seem right and I assume those are the only three terminals on them. Do you have any pictures of it ? do they look like this ?

If its the 40 amp system these 2 regulators on the back of the engine . I removed them on mine when I went to 16amp and lightened fly wheel. I might still have them some where.
