Broken Already!

i cant belive it, i was biggin hill international and i get a call from dad floating around in the littlehampton/arun river entrance swearing down the phone! it apparently just conked out! and coughed into life enough just to get back, but apparently sounded as if only on one cyl!
got it out of the water and will not even turn over! now the last time this happened on the XR2 it costed 5 odd grand! chewed up a piston.
the day before running like a dream, best yet since i we got it.
but it might be fuel contamination (long story) does that sound possible??

to me it should still turnover, it would just not fire!?
anything i could look out for, under cowling? (btw i have no idea about mechanics apart from the basics lol)

cheers lewis

Try taking the plugs out and put a socket on the flywheel and see if she turns. If it doesn't move then it sounds like it's siezed.

What about oil level - got any?

If Adrian fixed it already ring his number and ask him to take a look at it. He can at least tell you what the problem is. Hes a good mate, and very sympathetic to problems on engines he's worked on.

Sounds like the engine cooling system is leaking, and if spraying salty water over electrics that would would cause a whole bunch of problems.

Ooh err lewis! Best thing to do is whip the old plugs out then see if she turns over. Dont sound good though mate. Aint you heard the saying that your engine always runs the best its ever run just before it goes bang!

Yeh, usually cos somethings causing em to run a bit leaner or hotter (hotter combustion temps I mean, not necessarily hotter water temps)

7200!!!

Not suprised it let go!

That looks like a 2.4 / 2.5 to me not an EFI / XR2. Didnt think stock 2.4 / 2.5's were meant to spin at anywhere near that!

Engine wasn't stock, ported, balenced and exhaust chest work, Guy had run aground and plugged his water intakes.

I see! Gutted for the fella anyway. Powerheads aint cheap as we all know.

Nice to hear you gave him a tow in though. Last thing anyone needs after their motor goes pop is to have to make the dreaded call to the RNLI.

yay, Adrian to the rescue! he got it fired on sunday, was a solenoid, then causing the ECU to go into a safe like mode, which would apparently cause it run bad, like a car ECU i guess?

anyway, at least nothing major, and on a plus note, confirmed its only done around 68 ish hours and said it was a fine example!!!
