Cavitation plates

I've been trying to source 4 blade cleavers in the States for Mr. Noisy. Problem is the diameter. Need 15 1/4 max as that's all the cav. plates will allow.

Cobra Performance (the engine builders) in Fla. say the solution is to cut the cav. plate at an angle and then props up to 16.5 in diameter will fit. According to them it was a common practice in the 80's.

Maybe I'm being thick but I'm not sure what the implications would be if this was done.
