Contaminated fuel

Anyone got any ideas where / how you can get petrol tested if you think it's contaminated ?

Put 100litres in a clean tank at fleet services on the way to the Poole race and a little blew out of the breather, by the time we got to Poole the back of the boat was covered in a bright yellow oil (where the fuel had evaporated ) which smelt of white spirit.

Run the race with "ok" performance but was down 2-250 rpm.

This afternoon I drained of 1 litre and let it evaporate in the sun .. Two thirds has gone and I'm left with a seriously cloudy thick yellow liquid that does not resemble petrol in any way ...

Ideas .. Opinions ?

Forgot to say I also evaporated a comparison 1 litre of fuel purchased at a different location today which has also two thirds evaporated but remains clear and still resembles petrol

That rather smacks of "off" petrol - I had some once that when I drained it out I coulda sworn it was white spirit - but it had been sitting for a year or 2.

Thats what I was thinking, either diesel or very old petrol. But theres so many additives in petrol these days that who knows what it is!

Petrol doesnt even really smell like petrol any more.

Think i'm going to go and get another gallon on the way home from the same pump, although i guess the tank would have already been filled as its a busy services,

the litre of fuel has now evaporated as much as i think its going to and im left with 225ml of what resembles cloudy cooking oil , the other comparison litre has completely evaporated and the jug is dry.

I know they are allowed to add "addatives" but thought that was only to 5% .. so somethings not right

Could it be a problem with your tank/filler?

dont think its the tank as its an aluminium one less than a year old which was drained / flushed just before the allhallows race (clean anyway) at the end of April, as for the filler its got a good seal and located under the boat cover so nothing "should" get in there
