I have a Cougar 27 with the much criticised combination Honda lump and it's pretty awesome in the chop but you need to be careful!!
I think it all depends on setup and prop the Honda midsection is too long really, but set up right it's not too bad

Don't see many bods out when it's rough!!!

I was amazed how well the OCR boats did new years day.
How fast do they go with a 130 yam?

Around 60mph ! It's all about handling and average speed.

It's also about course (and context) though isn't it! On a tight twisty course a 19 ft non-stepped lightweight boat is gonna do well compared with a narrow 27ft stepped hull - it's almost 1/3rd shorter for a start. Bigger course, choppier water and less twisting and turning, a different kettle of fish.

I think the comparison with a Cougar and a Phantom would have different outcomes in different conditions, I'm sure a 28 would beat the Cougar in some conditions for instance but there are no stepped Phantoms (at least not real ones) so a straight comparison is a little pointless really, as Rob has already pointed out a Phantom 19 can be quicker in a short course!

Also remember lads, first time putting a Cougar 27 with short leg together and first time turning it, so i was a liitle aware of what could happen. So maybe not pushing to hard. But as for the course, up and back two turn marks over 500 meters. I never had a chance over a 19 foot phantom ocr boat. He did very well.
I was about to take you Bob before i stopped, as the 150 set up you had realy did not work like your 130.
But every one did well.

All in all very happy with the set up. Mark
Should have stuck with the 300, managed to nudge 80 with a 4 blade trophy in Norway..! but did have the benefit of being able to adjust the ride height.

Invest in an ET Lighting, it gave me another 3.5mph and much better acceleration.

Are you planning to fit a lifter? Personally I like the idea of being able to drop the the engine way down as it felt as though the rough weather abilty was severly comprimised with the engine up that high. Difficult to tell for sure as I was testing in a Fjord with no waves.

The same boat now has a 15'' leg and the engine has been tweaked to give about 380bhp and 90mph.
